Following the success of Gardiner Houlgate selling various other fine examples in 2016, 2017 and 2018, this early example is the next to be offered for sale - Condition Report: Movement - requires a service as not running consistently.Dial - gloss dial with typical oxidised wear and makers of a nice patination, there are two areas of the dial towards the rim at the 12/1 and very minor area to the 2 baton position where white dust marks are present, this appears to be possibly from damp/mould residue or possibly a reaction from the radium, when very lightly brushed this appears to flake away, however we have not attempted to clean or remove further, from inspection the black surface beneath appears in tact as far as we can view. Very small chip mark at the 6/7 position, small mark next to the '200' and beneath the 'S', some oxidised surface marks beneath the Oyster and an area between the 10/11 position where there is some surface oxidised wear to the lacquer - images are provided for guidance with the dial out of the case, the flaws mentioned are more highlighted in the images than is apparent to the naked eye. Glass - visible scratch marks and requires replacement. Turning up the Lowboy the underside of the feet are all noted to be tipped. The legs appear in fairly good condition with no breaks or repairs apparent although the front right leg appears to have a historic 2cm hairline behind where the knee is carved and this may well constitute an old repair.. In the Auctioneers opinion this item has certainly been restored at some stage in the past with some staining apparent to the underside where new polish has been applied at some stage. The piece appears to be a nice colour overall. The top of the piece has been quarto veneered and there are several scrapes and indentations across the top of the piece commensurate with age.
