A Late 19th/Early 20th Century Drop End Two Seat Chesterfield Settee, the out scrolled arms and back buttoned, the whole upholstered in green leather, on castors, 68ins overallThe dropdown mechanism still works and extends and retracts properly. There is a rip in the seat around 5ins and a scratch just above that around 8ins long. To the front of the seat there are a few scratches, each around 4ins long running horizontally. The leather is in an overall distressed condition, commensurate with age. Overall the padding and leather remain firm and comfortable. The left hand side has a stud missing. The arm has general heavier wear to the base commensurate with age. Overall the item is structurally sound with little to no movement to the joints.
A Restored English Holster Pistol, 12ins browned barrel (possible replacement), browned action engraved crown over R, maker's name Farmer and 1743, hardwood stock and fore end, brass pommel and trigger guard, in non-contemporary box, with some tools and accessories The weapon appears to be in a refreshed condition and is potentially a made-up piece. The lock itself is marked with the maker's name and a date of 1744. The weapon cocks, holds and fires. The fit of the lock to the woodwork leaves something to be desired and is not very precise. The barrel looks to be a possible replacement and has no visible proof marks. The brass work is definitely reproduction and has been added at a later date. However the piece is a nice decorative item and is complete with a prefabricated box which is possibly an old cutlery box but certainly the gun fits well.

On the back edge there are various areas of veneer shrinkage and loss, most noticeably on the right hand side where there is a shrinkage split running vertically around 4ins long and a rectangular section of veneer loss around 2ins squared. A Victorian Camel Back Three Seat Settee of "Georgian" Design, with scroll carved arm terminals, the back, seat and arms upholstered in pale blue damask and on leaf carved supports with ball and claw feet, 80ins overallThe upholstery on the back, seat and arms appears to be in a relatively good overall condition with no obvious repairs, stains or rips. The springs to the front section of the seat are six large springs which are collapsed and lacking padding. The springs on the back and padding on the arms feel firm and comfortable as well as the back section of the seat. A George IV Gentleman’s Figured Mahogany Bow and Breakfront Wardrobe, the upper part with shaped and carved cornice, fitted five sliding trays enclosed by a pair of doors, the base fitted two short and two long drawers, with turned, carved and spiral reeded columns to sides, on turned and reeded feet, 53ins wide x 26ins deep x 88ins highAround all three front edges of the cornice there is some general rubbing and slight edge knocks. On the right hand side there is a vertical shrinkage split and on the lower section there is a shrinkage split or crack around 4ins long running horizontally. On the left hand side to the moulding of the cornice are two vertical shrinkage splits each around 2ins long. On the front at the left hand side there is a diagonal shrinkage split around 2ins long. On the very front of the cornice on the moulding at the top there are five shrinkage splits each running vertically around 2ins long. Some darker stain and polish build-up on the frieze, particularly in the corners and behind the decoration. On the right side there are numerous small areas of veneer repair all of which are of circular form and around 0.5ins diameter, the same on the left hand. Left hand door has a vertical shrinkage split around 12ins long at the top. On the left hand side at the bottom of the door there is a shrinkage split around 15ins long running vertically and on the right hand side there are shrinkage splits in four places, from around 2ins to 12ins long. At the base of the door is a shrinkage split running vertically. On the left hand side at the top of the base there is an area of moulding that is missing running horizontally from one end to the other. On the front left hand side there is a small area of moulding missing around 3ins long. Please note the doors are heavily warped and do not meet in the centre. There is a gap and there is an area of timber loss at the top of the left hand door on the right hand side in a block form. The drawers and slides run free and easily with minimal resistance. To the right hand side of the base there is a vertical shrinkage split running from one end to the other, also on the left side. There is a small area of timber loss on the right hand side of the base in a rectangular section around 2ins x 1ins, the same on the left hand side. General heavier wear to the feet commensurate with age. Overall the item is structurally sound however there is some movement in the joints.

The blade itself is bright and free from any significant corrosion however it does have some patination of age in places. There is no obvious sign of damage or previous repair. The guard has a very nice patination to the bronze, a very deep brown, again free from any sign of obvious damage or previous repair, likewise the shagreen grip is in good condition, all the wire binding is intact and is not loose or damaged and has no sign s of previous repair. The scabbard does have a fair amount of external corrosion which should clean off but it merely patination of age. There is no damage, dents or sign of previous repair. Prospective bidders are advised to study the images carefully prior to bidding
18th Century British School - Oil Painting - Half length portrait of a gentleman, wearing a white shirt and brown overcoat, unsigned, relined canvas, 30ins x 24ins in gilt moulded frame There is extensive restoration/touch ups to the lower part of the torso as well as to the upper left hand side. It is not possible to state for certain whether this painting has been cut down from a larger canvas, please refer to the condition report images for more detail and to view the reverse of the painting. There is some fine crackling/crazing on various areas on the man's coat, which looks to have a matte surface and may be what appears as lighter patches on the coat. To the top of the base around all three front edges there are general edge knocks and rubbing and at the top there are numerous shrinkage splits, the most notable running from one end to the other horizontally. Flight holes present, evidence of historic woodworm. Drawers run free and easily with minimal resistance. To the left and right hand sides there are vertical shrinkage splits from one end to the other. General heavier wear to the feet commensurate with age. Overall the item is structurally sound however there is some movement in the joints.
A French (Gras) Chassepot Rifle, Model 1866-74, M80, Serial No. 74906, 11mm calibre, 33ins barrel with elevating sights, hardwood stock and fore end with black metal butt plate, 51ins overall Note: You do not need a licence to purchase this item. We cannot post this item but can recommend an external shipper The weapon appears in good condition showing wear and marks commensurate with age and military service. All the components are present and the action functions correctly. The barrel has some corrosion and therefore it is not possible to comment on it. The woodwork has some bruising, this is historic. Overall the weapon is complete and bears a nice patination of age. To the top of the barrel a hole has been drilled so that it is top venting, this does not imply that the gun is deactivated in any way. It should be noted there is a split and some minor damage to the woodwork two-thirds of the way along the barrel. This is evident in the images. To the whole there are flight holes present, evidence of historic woodworm. Front is unevenly faded from the sides. To the left hand door there is a small area of moulding missing in a section around 2ins long. To the right hand door there are three small sections of moulded missing, each around 2ins in a diamond section, and on the right hand side of the right door there are another three sections of moulding missing each in a diamond section around 2ins long. To the right hand lower panel of the same door there is a section of moulding missing, and on the left hand door at the bottom there is an area of moulding missing. To the interior, the hanging rail is later and has been added. The right hand drawer appears to have been refreshed and has been made up of newer timber. Handles appear to be replacements. Flight holes present, evidence of historic woodworm. To the base on the inside there are three new pieces of timber, on the left, back and right hand sides. Key is present. Left hand side third panel down there is a shrinkage split running horizontally from one end to the other. On the right hand side to the top panel there is a shrinkage split running horizontally from one end to the other. General heavier wear to the feet commensurate with age. A 17th Century Panelled Oak Walnut and Pine Chest in Two Sections, with moulded edge to top, fitted four long drawers with twin moulded panels to front and interspersed by bead mouldings, on bracket feet 41ins wide x 22.75ins deep x 37ins highTo the top there is some general scattered scratching and darker staining. Between the three planks that make up the top there are two horizontal shrinkage splits running from one end to the other. On the left hand side of the top there is a shrinkage split running horizontally around 15ins long. Around all three front edges of the top there is some slight rubbing and general edge knocks. To the right hand side of each of the panels there are signs of historic woodworm with flight holes present. General heavier scattered scratching, the same on the left hand side. Drawers run free and easily with minimal resistance. General heavier wear to the base and feet commensurate with age. Overall the item is structurally sound however there is a lot of movement in the joints.

The dial appears to be in good condition showing no obvious sign of any restoration, likewise the glass and frame are bearing the original black paint and present in good condition. The hinge functions correctly with no sign of wear and the screws appear original. The outer wooden bezel shows no undue sign of previous damage or repair and shows the odd mark, again commensurate with age and usage and it appears to have had a coat of varnish but this is historic rather than recent. To the rear of the clock the woodwork presents again in honest original condition, the screws appear to be original, the hinges to the flaps at the side at the bottom appear original and in good order. Both flaps function correctly. The brass hanging tag is not original but is a replacement and has two new screw attached to it. The four wooden pegs that hold the cabinet appear to be in good condition and original. The cabinet itself again has original screws, no sign of any obvious previous repair or damage but may again historically have received a coat of varnish. The movement is honest and complete, does not appear to have any replacement parts, it winds and runs and sets but should be regarded as untested. We cannot warrant the originality of all parts but there is nothing glaringly obvious. Pendulum is present and is original. The key is non original but fits and functions correctly. Prospective bidders are advised to study all images closely prior to bidding. Overall a good honest example of a increasingly rare item.

A 19th Century French Provincial Fruitwood Bookcase, the upper part with moulded cornice, fitted two shelves enclosed by pair of glazed doors, the base fitted two frieze drawers and cupboard under enclosed by pair of panelled doors, on bracket feet, 53ins wide x 19.5ins deep x 88ins highTo the top of the cornice around all three front edges there is some general rubbing and slight edge knocks. On the lower section of the cornice the frieze, the veneer has various areas of shrinkage and there is a diagonal shrinkage split on the right hand side around 3ins long. On the right hand side there is a vertical shrinkage split running from one end to the other. There is an area of veneer loss at the back left hand corner in a triangular section around 0.5ins. Flight holes present to the whole, evidence of historic woodworm. The right hand door is slightly bowed and there is dark polish and stain build up to the doors. General scattered scratching to the top of the base and darker staining. Drawers run free and easily with minimal resistance. Key is present. The base is unevenly faded from the top. To the right hand side at the base there is a vertical shrinkage split running from one end to the other. The same on the left hand side. General heavier wear to the feet and plinth base commensurate with age. Overall the item is structurally sound with little to no movement in the joints.

A George III Mahogany Square Back Bergere Armchair, with reeded framing, cane panelled seat, back, and sides, on turned and reeded front legs and castors, the armpads and loose squab cushions upholstered in red leatherThe top of the crest rail - the wooden frame is heavily rubbed. On the left hand upright there is an edge knock with some timber loss around 1ins diameter. The leather components (arm pads, seat and back) are heavily distressed, torn and ripped. The wicker back has three large holes, the largest being around 2 to 3ins diameter, and the smallest being around 1 to 2ins diameter. On the left hand side there is a small hole around 1ins diameter, and on the right hand side there is a larger hole around 5ins diameter. General heavier wear to the supports and feet commensurate with age. Overall the item is structurally sound however there is quite a lot of movement in the joints. To the left hand upright there is a crack running through nearly all the way to the back and on the right and left hand sides where the arms meet the uprights of the back, there are signs of shrinkage. Overall this item is in a fairly poor condition.

To the right hand pedestal there is a shrinkage split to the centre of the column running vertically from one end to the other, the same on the left hand pedestal. On the base of each pedestal between the corner joints there is some slight shrinkage and general heavier wear to the plinth base commensurate with age. Overall the item is structurally sound and is in a fairly good condition. No chairs were consigned with this lot.
