RAF Marine Craft, Air Sea Rescue launch Brass Ship’s Clock by Smiths. A rare example of a brass cased bulkhead clock, the white face signed Smith’s Cricklewood NW2’. An Early 20th Century Example of a Bamana N'tomo Initiation Mask comprising of six horns and a figure with a female in the centre. The masks serve to protect young boys during their first initiation cycle before circumcision. This style of N'tomo mask with the head of the woman in front of the horns is located in the region of Bougouni in Mali whereas the female figure being in the centre would be from the Segour Regoin of Mali. The number of horns makes reference to specific characteristic of males (three or six horns) or females (four or eight horns) and the androgynous (two, five or seven horns). The item is made of wood, rope, abrus seeds and measures approx. 26 ins (66 cm) tall and 7 ½ ins (19 cm) wide.
A Large and Beautifully carved Mid- Late 20th Century Senufo Ceremonial Offering Pot from the Ivory Coast. The Pot is decorated with an equestrian figure on top, representing a fortune-teller known as "master of the horse" or "Siyonfolo" as well as a figure who represents a bush ghost, both important in Senufo society. As well as these two figures the lid shows two Porpianong birds (Calao birds). The bowl of the item is carved with turtles, a lizard and a snake, being held at the bottom by Senufo musicians. The piece is made of wood, measuring approx. 27 ½ ins (70 cm) tall and 12 ins (30 cm) wide.
The Provand's Lordship Withdrawing Table. A Fine & Rare 17th Century Oak Draw Leaf Table, in the Laudian Taste, of good colour & patination. The planked top with cleated ends and pull out extension leaves either side, having an exhibition label to one end reading; 'OAK WITHDRAW TABLE/LEANT BY D (?) ROBERTSON ESQ.' The frieze adorned with beveled baguettes and rhombus appliqués, raised on baluster turned front legs with bold square block supports to the rear leading down to boarded base platform with decorative appliqués and edge moulding. The table designed to be easily dismantled with pegged through tenon joints to the legs. 32½ ins (82 cms) high, 34¾ ins (88.5 cms) wide, 95 ins (241.5 cms) long extending to 178¼ ins (452.5 cms). [Provand's Lordship, Glasgow, photographed insitu circa 1929, inscribed with item number PP1926.11, purchased by Alistair Sampson Antiques London 1989] Provand's Lordship referred to as 'the oldest house in Glasgow' is a rare example of 15th century Scottish domestic urban architecture.

Has an oval "Madras Ship Letter" cachet in black & a "INDIA LETTER/GRAVESEND" cachet in red (IN 2).

3rd century AD. A D-section heavy solid gold hoop expanding towards the carinated shoulders, with facets to the upper face, discoid plaque with intaglio text '???????' (from the town) of Chalcis. Property of a West Midlands, UK, collector; acquired on the UK art market 1990s. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 230. Chalcis or Chalkida is the main town of the island of Euboea, Greece. The town is mentioned in the Iliad (2.537) and was used by Antiochus III of Syria (192 BC) and Mithradates VI of Pontus (88 BC) as a base for their invasions of Greece. It was a commercial centre under Roman rule. 12 grams, 28mm overall, 16.98 x 21.22mm internal diameter (approximate size British M 1/2, USA 6 1/2, Europe 13.16, Japan 12) (1"). Very fine condition. Extremely rare.
1st-2nd century AD. A round-section gold hoop with integral elliptical cell, inset carnelian cloison with intaglio profile janiform head of Attis with Phrygian cap facing right and a satyr to the rear. From an important London collection, acquired in the 1970s; formerly the property of a Harley Street professional. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 192; see also Cook, A.B. Zeus. A Study in Ancient Religion, vol.2, Cambridge, 1925, for janiform heads of divinities. Attis was the consort of Cybele, the Mother Goddess from Pessinus in Asia Minor. Attis is a god of vegetation and rebirth and his myth tells how, through his passion for the goddess Cybele, he emasculated himself under a pine tree and bled to death. Spring flowers and trees grew from his blood and the goddess in pity brought him back to life. His main festival was in March and celebrated the death and resurrection of the god. 9.13 grams, 22mm overall, 18.35 x 16.53mm internal diameter (approximate size British L 1/2, USA 6, Europe 11.87, Japan 11) (1"). Extremely fine condition.
