A rare and possibly one off Boer War Queen Victoria Christmas tin painting, produced by The Metal Box Company, Carlisle. The base of the image appears to be either a photograph or print that has been embellished with white gouache and black paint highlights.Notes: it seems likely that the painting was produced as a prototype for making tin plate boxes, or possibly signs (the item was consigned with many other original paintings that were later used on tins). It’s known that the Boer War 1900 chocolate tins were made by 3 different manufacturers, one for each of the chocolate makers used.Interestingly, from 1869 the metal box company was operated by Hudson Scott & Sons, who were the manufactures of the tins used by Cadbury’s.Whether this prototype was part of some kind of heritage collection is unknown. The piece is covered in a cellophane type material and secured on the back by tape.A label to the reverse give the company name and refers to it as the ‘File Copy’ and states ‘Please return after use’.The exact date of manufacturer is unknown, but could be contemporary to the 1900 Christmas tin.It was acquired directly from the factory and was destined to be thrown away.Approximately 22.2cm x 14.6cm.Condition: very good. There are some light indentation marks to the cellophane covering, but these don’t affect the main image area.

Daveluy, circa 1850, a complete deck of 52 colour lithographed porcelain playing cards (French suits), double-ended medieval fantasy style courts with landscape backgrounds, each end slightly differing, ace of diamonds with title, ace of hearts with Daveluy, Breveté Bruges, no indices, round-cornered gold borders, dusty, somewhat soiled and rubbed, few minor creases, versos pale pink with gold dots and dotted circles, each card 88 x 58 mm, original slipcase box with lid, front with jack of clubs, worn, two sides of lid replaced, 16 or 17 cards from each deck mounted with photo corners onto 3 display boards, encapsulated in clear plastic (not examined out of boards), the remainder contained in plastic bags, each board 54.5 x 40.5 cm and similarQTY: (3)NOTE:Provenance: Collection of Dudley Ollis.First and third items: Cary collection, Bel 41 & 42; Daveluy 18; Fournier, Belgium 15; Mann, All Cards on the Table, 194; Both packs of Cartes Moyen-Age are on thin glazed 'porcelain' paper. The first pack listed appears to be a very early edition - possibly the first - of this much-repeated design. We have found no other example like this, with beards as well as moustaches for jacks (except for the notably clean-shaven jack of spades), and with square corners to both the cards and their gold borders. The third pack listed here agrees with Mann 194 (also with Daveluy 18), which she describes as being one of the earliest designs of this pack and dates it to circa 1850. All other examples we have seen show moustaches (only) for all jacks, and later designs include indices, crown over the king suit signs, and eventually rounded corners. Therefore we suggest that our first pack is very possibly the first Cartes Moyen-Age design that Daveluy produced. Daveluy was printing playing cards from around 1840, and filed his patent for chromolithographic production in 1847.Second item: Cartorama 62 #22; Cary collection, Belgium 43 (similar); Daveluy 15.

The History & Games of C.W. Faulkner & Co., by Neil Darbyshire (2000). The only records we have found of this pack is an old eBay part-record on the Worthpoint website (possibly the same pack?), and a description on the BoardGamesGeek website (where it is incorrectly called Fairy Folk Misfitz). The type 3 versos indicate this is an early reissue of a first series deck. The fairy tales or nursery rhymes depicted are: Hey Diddle Diddle, A Frog He Would A Wooing Go, There Was An Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe, Three Blind Mice, Cinderella, The Three Bears, Dick Whittington, Little Red Riding Hood.

SEX PISTOLS POSTER - A Rare survivor from the Roadie who was at the Gig and a friend of Martin who was the band member of the support act on the night, Albert Dock. This Sex Pistols Poster is an original 1976 Handbill / Poster and an extremely rare piece of original early Sex Pistols Promotional Material. It was for the show at Eric’s in Liverpool, England on October 15, 1976.The poster is in good condition for its age. It has a small piece missing on the top right of the poster and a small side tear and a little light creasing. Its quite a deep yellow paper with crisp black print. The two figures standing on the rock are John Campbell and Henry Priestman, both member’s of Yachts, and later, It’s Immaterial, and Henry Priestman from The Christians. Martin a member of Albert Dock took the photograph on an art college trip to the Lake District and passed the negative on for the poster production. `The item measures just short of A4 at 295mm x 208mm and it served as both poster and handbill for the gig promotion, the Sex Pistols’ first outing to Liverpool. At that time at Erics, the main act performed upstairs early on in the evening and the support act played downstairs in what would later become the main club area.`This performance came at a pivotal time for the Pistols.  Less than a month before, they’d signed a five year management contract with Malcolm McLaren’s Glitterbest Ltd.  Three weeks prior to this show, Nick Mobbs of EMI saw the band for the first time, and on October 8, just a week before the Eric’s show, the group officially signed to the label. On October 10 the band recorded an early version of “Anarchy in the UK” with their sound man, Dave Goodman, and beginning on the 12th, they played shows in Dundee, Wolverhampton, and Birkenhead before the Liverpool show on October 15.  The Liverpool Echo noted “This gig certainly didn’t have the same impact as the Pistol’s Free Trade Hall gigs in Manchester – in fact it almost went unnoticed as there were only about 50 people there…Eric’s had only just opened on 1 October, and among the first bands to play were the Runaways and the Stranglers. But on 15 October, the infamous Sex Pistols pogo’ed their way into town…Holly Johnston, Paul Rutherford [both later of Frankie Goes to Hollywood], and Pete Burns [Dead or Alive] were all in attendance that night.”Just two days after the Eric’s show, the Pistols recorded the version of “Anarchy in the UK” that EMI released.  Five days later, on October 22, Stiff records released The Damned’s “New Rose”, the first-ever UK punk record, beating the Pistols debut single by about a month.Provenance from Richard, a college friend of Martin Watson, Guitarist and Vocals for Albert Dock and later Yachts and who was the roadie for the night. As he states to ensure admission to the gig I was the roadie for Albert Dock ! The other poster is a rare Albert Dock - Return of the Magnificent 7 Poster in fair condition. It has a little staining has been folded once and has pin holes in the corner. It measures 44 cm by 33 cm.
