Extremely Rare 1942 British Airborne 1st Model Step-In Paratroopers Smock, manufactured by Rego Clothiers Ltd, produced in a heavy gabardine khaki coloured material with working central front zip, Newey Patt brass press stud fittings to the front, storm type cuffs and armpit ventilation. Original shoulder straps. Lower side pockets have the original zips but these are corroded and not in working order. Interior of the smock has the original “Jackets Parachutist” label, having Rego Clothiers Ltd makers details, size details and date 1942. War Department inspection stamp having the date letter O (1942). The smock shows clear evidence of wear, with some staining and the label has worn but still visible. Overall a very good example of an extremely rare item of British Airborne forces clothing. These smocks were the first examples produced and issued to the newly formed British Airborne Forces. They were a direct copy of the early German Paratrooper smocks, which were also a step-in pattern. These early smocks were issued to the Airborne forces which took part in the Bruneval Raid (Operation Biting). They were soon proved to not be very effective as they were not quick to get in and out of and as a result were very soon replaced by the more commonly found Denison Smocks and Parachute Oversmocks. Very few of these early pattern smocks remain on the collecting market as many were dumped or altered for use after WW2. For more details about these items please see “Denison British Airborne Specialist Clothing From WW2 to the Present Day” by Bruce Wilson.
British Special Operations Executive (S.O.E) War-Time Propaganda Forgery German Postcard, these cards of which there are other types, were printed by the special Operations Executive (SOE) and were “Franked” with British Forgery of the 3 Reichspfenig definitive stamp (Hitler head) issue of 1941. The format and text were designed to lower the morale of the German Population, in this case by contrasting the Food Rationing Scales that were available to the Cadres of the National Socialist Leadership to those that were available to the normal population. On the obverse of the card were printed by SOE what the Ration Scale allowed to the Political Leadership consisted of (by Decree of the State Food Secretary Backe of 26.I.1943) To the reverse was a statement by Dr Robert Ley in his office as National Housing Minister (which was reported in the Newspaper “Der Angriff” of 12.10.1943) in which he claimed to be an ordinary “consumer” on the same Ration Scale as the rest of the population. How these were to be distributed to War-time Germany remains obscure, whether by SOE Agents, by Post from Switzerland or by RAF “Air-Drop” just some of the means SOE distributed their Propaganda to Germany. Very rare item.
