Jack Sue’s Field Compass with Case TG Co Ltd London; Serial No 45339 1940 MK III This type of compass was used throughout WW2 during the Japanese occupation as well as in the Malaysia conflict. Jack’s compass was damaged during an operational patrol and attack upon a Jap garrison near Dampirit on Kudat Peninsular in British North Borneo 1945 Not long after this, he was dismissed from Service in late August 1945 and brought this damaged item home as a reminder of what happened at Dampirit and Pituru See details in Jack’s book Blood on Borneo AF - Broken glass cover lens; Liquid from compass has leaked out Compass Diameter: 5.8cm

A manuscript note on the flyleaf suggests it was captured from the enemy during the Battle of Jutland.

French Code Flag Signal Chart, 1804. A large manuscript table titled 'Signaux pour les Cotes de France depuis Port Vendre jusqu'a Villefranche', with flags and pennants drawn in detail, ink and watercolour on card, 565mm x 427mm, [c. September 1804] According to the documentation with this item, the original was captured by the Royal Navy in 1804 during the period of Napoleon's closure of European ports to British trade. Copies were then made and issued to each Royal Navy ship employed in the following blockade of French Ports, the British tactical response. The Royal Navy intercepted all ships destined for France and gave them the option of delivering their cargo to Britain, or have it seized. The possession of this chart gave the British a definitive advantage. This example is sold with a number of facsimiles, produced c.1995.

India. 1854-5 4a blue and red horizontal pair from second printing, Head II, Frame 1, a fine pair with magins all round save just cut into at bottom left on entire to Marseilles (Oct. 3 1853). Each with barred #1 in lozenge (Bombay), and tied by black '10' rating mark and red Marseilles arrival. Oxidised 'INDIA POST' red handstamp on front and Bombay double-arc CDS on reverse. Filing folds, not affecting adhesives. A splendid item. SG 19

India. Chalo Delhi. 1944 1a plum GOVERNMENT in a complete unused sheet of 100, folded and with a little separation. Interestingly it can be seen that the top and bottom halves of the sheet are identical, showing that it was printed from two strikes of the same plate. Great Eastern Railway wooden Platform Bench with GER cast iron supports and complete with LNER cast iron Seatback DERSINGHAM. Measuring 84 inches in length x 19 inches wide x 35 inches tall and repainted in blue. A very rare item from the Kings Lynn to Hunstanton Branch and next station to Royal Wolferton. The station opened in 1862 and closed when the entire branch became defunct in 1969. Buyer to arrange through us collection from the Norfolk area.

A FINE & EXTREMELY RARE 18TH CENTURY CHINESE QIANLONG MARK & PERIOD FAMILLE ROSE IMPERIAL QUALITY PORCELAIN OFFERING DISH, the interior with a formal design of unusual geometric motifs divided by scrolling lotus, the wide everted rim with an unusual design of circular piercings linked by an iron-red cord surround within formal floral borders, the base enamelled in turquoise and centred by a Qianlong seal mark in iron-red, 15.3in diameter. (cf. Lot 3442 Christies Hong Kong 27th November 2013 for a pair of very similar examples. Also a related example is exhibited in The National Palace Museum in Taiwan. CRICKET-AUSTRALIA 2002 Banner showing South Africa v Australia 2002 with the relevant flags of the two countries and signed beneath by 15 members of the Australian squad including Ponting, Lehmann, Gilchrist, McGrath, Warne, Lee, Watson, Gillespie etc. The signatures were obtained by Andrew Hall of the South Africa team and the Aussies were notoriously reluctant to sign when on tour. It was a successful Tour for the Aussies who won both the Tests and the ODI series with ease. Andrew Hall made 21 Test match appearances for South Africa and played in 88 ODI games for South Africa. Banner is made of cloth and staples to a piece of board, the flags are in colour and the signatures are black ink. Slight staining to the top but a nice, unusual item. Generally good

WAR TIME FOOTBALL A very interesting item, a rare selection letter from the F.A dated 27 Nov 1945 addressed to George Hardwick (Middlesbro and England) informing him of his selection should a match be arranged between an F.A XI v Dynamo Moscow at Villa Park on Wednesday 5 Dec 1954 The letter has been signed by Stanley Rous and Hardwick had been requested to treat the letter as private and confidential (underlined). Despite Villa Park printing 70,000 tickets the match did not take place as news from a Moscow radio station announced that the Dynamo team had been ordered home and this was seen as a political decision. Folds, slightly creased. Fair

TOTTENHAM -OPUS BOOK Very large, extremely heavy Tottenham Hotspur Club Opus book , complete with original packaging with Club Crest on the front, not so much a coffee table book as a coffee table itself. Measures 22" x 23" approximately. Club edition, number 970 of 1000 , signed on frontispiece by Robbie Keane, Ledley King, Martin Jol and Juande Ramos. Over 820 pages full of original photos and articles which have not appeared elsewhere in print. Statistics of every Spurs competitive game from 1882-2007. Includes white gloves to wear to protect the pages when looking at it. Box which contains it has a slight scuff at one corner but condition is good. Tottenham produced the book to celebrate their 125th Anniversary and there were different editions with prices ranging from £4,000 for the Club Edition of which 500 copies numbered 501-1000 were produced, the other three editions were numbered 1-500 and the top price edition was £10,000.00 Due to weight and risk of damage, this item is available for inspection at our offices but will not be at the auction itself, if it is sold to someone present at the auction, we will arrange to bring it to them on the day of the auction.
