Ca. 2nd millennium BCE.Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC) (Oxus Civilization), Bronze Age; A delightful cast bronze vessel for holding cosmetics, capped by a long lid with BIRDS figure atop that is perhaps attached to stick used for applying kohl. The pot has a highly decorated rounded body with a beaded equator line; Three bent legs with hoof-like feet support it. Based on ancient evidence, we believe that the Bactrian concept of feminine beauty involved cosmetically enhanced dark eyes, which this item would have been used to create. Condition: Good;Size:145mm;78g; Provenance: Property of a professional London art expert; obtained from an old British collection formed in the 1970s.
