There are chips throughout, most noticeably along the top edge. Horizontally through the center of the work. There is another crack extending down from the previous crack from the middle left, curving downward toward the middle bottom.  Heavy losses to the paint along the underside. The verso of the work could not be examined due how the item is framed in metal. Discoloration to the metal.

Huang Shen (Chinese, 1687-1772). Ink on paper mounted scroll painting depicting a young figure reaching up towards an elderly man. Signed along the upper right corner. Bordered with silk.Huaxin; height: 47 3/4 in x width: 19 1/4 in. Framed; height: 61 1/2 in x width: 28 in.Condition: Wear throughout as shown in the listing image. No major losses or tears. Crease throughout the item, possibly from the glue. Ink has faded as expected from age. Liquid damage throughout; however, the liquid damage did not cause loss. Heavy toning to the sheet and to the huaxin. No glass. The verso could not be inspected due to the nature of how the item is framed.

With two handle loops along the body and a metal ring disc along the lid. With an apocryphal Qianlong four-character red seal along the underside.Provenance: From the Estate of C. Curtis "Curt" Dunnavan, Long Lake, Minnesota.C. Curtis "Curt" Dunnavan (1926-2022) was a passionate world traveler and avid collector. It was through his travels that he was inspired to begin a lifelong relationship with the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), becoming a major sponsor of the institute and facilitating the growth of their Asian art department, which is now one of the best in the country. His generous donations to Mia allowed them to establish a fund for the Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer, one of the few endowed positions of this type in the museum field. He additionally served as a trustee of the institute, advocating for its operational growth. In its turn, the museum established a gallery named in his honor in recognition for his endowment fund and numerous contributions to their collection. The selections here showcase his talent and breadth of collecting, ranging from ancient statues to 19th-century woodblock prints. The green bowl is fragile; it has multiple restored cracks throughout the item; please see the listing image. Along the lower side of the exterior, there are two areas where stickers have been affixed. Along the interior of the footrim, there are pencil marks as shown in the listing image.Black bowl: The black bowl has a restored crack along the rim, measuring approx 3 in. Crazing throughout. Along the exterior of the black bowl, there is a vertical line of crack that is extending from the rim to the footrim, measuring approx 4 in. Along the underside where the surface is not covered with black glaze, there are unidentified accretions. Wear to the interior bowl consistent with use.

Early 19th century Chinese silk embroidered kesi or kossu panel depicting figures in a cloudy and mountainous landscape.Height: 20 1/2 in x width: 7 1/4 in.Condition: The piece shows wear throughout. The item is toned and has stains throughout as shown in the listing image. Light losses along the extreme edges. In the lower left margin in the center image, there is a 1/2in tear. In the upper left quadrant, the silk is not firmly attached to the board. The verso could not be inspected due to the nature of how the artwork is framed. The board affixed to the silk fabric has heavy toning, skimming, and losses along the margins; there are two lines of old framer's tape loosely attached, and along the margins, there are old adhesive accretions.

Large antique Chinese stoneware bowl with a green crackle glaze and impressed designs in a band along the lower edge and top rim of the bowl.Height: 6 1/2 in x diameter: 13 in.Condition: No visible losses. No visible chips to the rim; a minute chip to the footrim. No major cracks throughout item. There is heavy crazing to glaze throughout item, possibility of being broken beneath glaze. Throughout the item, there are a few areas with adhesive residue that are fluorescent under UV light. There are minute black accretions along the interior. Unidentified residue along the interior, possibly liquid, which can be easily cleaned. Light wear along footrim as expected from age and use; sticker adhered along center of footrim.

Chinese embroidery on silk depicting young children playing in a courtyard surrounded by blooming flowers and peach trees.Provenance: Distinguished corporate collection, Minnesota.Sight; height: 21 in x width: 74 in. Framed; height: 41 in x width: 95 in.Condition: The textile is discolored and faded. There are stains throughout, most notably the upper margin. The item has been affixed to a paperboard backing; there are areas where the textile has bubbled. There are areas of fraying, most notable along the faces of the figures. There are areas where the work has been scuffed, most heavily along the bottom center. The art work is framed underneath a velvet mat, some wear to the frame. Not inspected out of frame. No glass or plexiglass.

Chinese Guangxu Qing famille rose porcelain ginger jar with lid. Decorated along one side with five figures in a garden gathering flowers and with script along the other.Height: 13 1/2 in x diameter: 8 in.Condition: Heavy wear throughout as shown in the listing image. Original firing and glazing flaws. The coloring has faded throughout the item. Along the exterior, there are two minute spots with white accretions adhered. Along the rim, there is a visible sign of possible grind-down; the areas is discolored. Along the rim, there are minute chips. Along the footrim, there are several scattered minute chips, discoloration, and minute cracks that do not affect the sturdiness of the item. When inspected under UV light, there are networks of fluorescent spots along the interior; however, they do not appear to be a restoration but natural developed corresponding to its age. The lid does not appear to match the jar; the color is slightly different. The top of the lid has an area that has possible restoration; please see the listing image.

Yoshitomo Nara (Japanese, b. 1959). Offset lithograph on paper titled "Real One" depicting a young girl with a teddy bear holding a pair of scissors aloft, 2020. With a copyright from Dallas Contemporary along the lower right. Nara's works have often been compared to manga he would have seen growing up as well as the punk rock music of his youth. His works have been housed at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).Height: 15 in x width: 17 in.Condition: The item is in excellent condition with no visible tears, creases, or losses. The color is bold and bright. No visible restoration under UV light. Along the verso, there is minute black accretions to the center; however, it does not affect the recto. There is a slight undulation to the sheet from being rolled.

Dust has collected in the recessed areas but can be cleaned. Throughout the item, there are natural lines visible as expected; along the natural lines, there are discoloration as shown in the listing image. There is a loss to the fabric carving to left of the larger female figure. There is a crack on the back of the shorter female's head. There is a crack along the right shoulder of the smaller female figure. There is restoration to the hair accessory of the larger female figure and lines of restoration along the back of the neck. There is a minute chip to the left bottom corner near the smaller female's foot. There is an inscription along the bottom of the sculpture. Throughout the underside of the base there is adhesive residue; please see listing image. Along the top, there is wear to the finish. There is wear throughout the base as expected from age.

The body very thin and the underside bearing a well-carved seal mark.Height: 3 1/4 in x diameter: 4 3/4 in.Condition: No visible cracks, losses, or signs of restoration under UV light. No major dents; minute dents throughout the item as expected. Light discoloration throughout as shown in the listing image. Dust collected along the recessed areas. Along the interior, there is heavy discoloration and oxidation. Along the underside, there is oxidation and wear, consistent with age and use.

19th century Chinese export carved hardwood plant stand with detailed pierced and stretcher work. The top is inlaid with lovely pink marble.Height: 36 1/2 in x diameter: 17 in.Condition: The item is structurally sound but is slightly wobbly. There are separations along many of the joints; some show signs of attempted repairs. Some minor chips throughout. There are three large cracks to the marble top. Scratches and wear to the marble. Some small chips along the edges.

Group of three small Chinese carved jade objects including: one celadon jade lychee pendant; one white jade phoenix, and one white jade pendant in the form of a bat.Height ranges 1 1/4 in to 1/2 in; width ranges 1 1/4 to 2 1/4 in; depth ranges 2 in to 1 1/4 in.Condition: There are no major cracks or losses to the items. Dust has collected in the recessed areas of the items, but is able to be cleaned. Natural lines visible as expected; along the natural lines, there is discoloration. There is a minute chipping along the edge of the lychee. There is a white accretion beneath the stem. There are natural lines visible as expected; along the natural lines, there is discoloration as expected. The bat has a minor crack along the left lower wing. There is an area that is discolored whiter along the backside of the item, measuring approximately 1/2 in. The phoenix has a minute drill hole near the center of one side, which is discolored dark. The other side has a minute crack along the lower half. No visible signs of restoration under UV light on any item.

Large Chinese famille rose porcelain charger painted along the interior with a vase of blooming carnations, mid to late 18th century. With a pink and blue patterned border with small cartouches depicting vases and flowers.Diameter: 17 in.Condition: No major cracks, dents, or visible losses. Wear throughout as shown in the listing image. Original glazing and firing flaws. To the left of the center, there is a minute dent that appears to be original. Consistent with age and use, color glazing faded throughout. No visible chips to the rim. Along the margin, there are a few scattered areas with light brown accretions. No visible sign of restoration under UV light; along the margin, there is an area to one of the cherry blossoms that is fluorescent under UV light; however, it does not appear to be a restoration but the top layer of the paint is peeled off. Minute chips to the footrim. Along the underside, there are light brown accretions visible and minute chips to the surface that do not alter the overall appearance of the item.

There are no visible signs of restoration under UV light. Under UV light there are a few, scattered area that are fluorescent under UV light; however they appear to be glazing flaws, not restoration.

Framed; height: 24 in x width: 18 1/2 in.Condition: The item is in generally good condition with no visible cracks, chips, or losses. Light wear throughout; there are several scattered areas of light brown discoloration as shown in the listing image. When inspected under UV light, there is no visible sign of restoration; however, there is an area with possible adhesive residue to the lower right quadrant. Wear to the wooden frame; dust collected.

Lot 254

Large and unusual Chinese PRC cloisonne figure depicting an ox immortal in a flowing blue robe. The robe decorated with bats flying through clouds and an auspicious symbol along the back.Height: 14 3/4 in x width: 7 3/4 in x depth: 4 1/2 in.Condition: Wear throughout the item. Oxidation to metal components. Dust has collected on the surface. There are a few scattered areas that have lost enamel, particularly to the right hand. All facial features are firmly attached to the face; no losses to the horn or other facial features. There is a dent to the left ear and the nose of the ox. To the left side of the neck, there is a gap measuring 1 inch; however, it does not seem to be a crack. There is a loss to the left foot; please see listing image. There are cracks along the right foot. Along the underside, there are dents; however, it does not affect the sturdiness of the item. There is also an adhesive residue adhered to the underside of the item.

Chinese carved hardwood stand. With an intricately carved and pierced skirt depicting scrolling leaves and fruit. Resting on four square carved scroll feet.Height: 11 in x width: 32 3/4 in x depth: 18 1/2 in.Condition: Heavy wear throughout as shown in the listing image; there are slight gaps between different wooden parts of the item. There are minute losses throughout, most noticeably to one of the corners along the top. Dust collected to the recessed area, particularly along the carved skirts. No visible signs of restoration under UV light.

Lot 305

Group of three 20th century Chinese porcelain objects including a lidded cup and two plates. The plates are painted with elegantly dressed figures; one plate with an inscription or poem along the top of the plate. The cup decorated with flowering branches. Each plate marked along the underside with an inscription indicating production in Jingdezhen. The cup with a four-character Qianlong mark along the underside.Lidded cup; height: 3 in x diameter: 3 1/2 in. Plates, each; diameter: 8 1/2 in.Condition: Overall there are no visible chips, cracks or losses to the lidded item and the plate with the figure holding a fan. There is a minute uneven area along the rim but it appears to be original on the plate with the drawing figure; there is a minute chip along the rim. The footrim of each plate has three drill holes; please see the listing image. There are a few scattered areas with original firing flaws, particularly along the interior of the lidded item. There is discoloration along the rim where the cup and lid meet. There is discoloration along the foot rim. There are two areas of adhesive residue along the top of the lid, visible under UV light. There is no restoration visible under UV light.

Small round late 19th century Chinese porcelain brush washer, glazed to resemble Yuan Jun ware. Stamped with red export seal.Height: 1 1/2 in x diameter: 3 1/4 in.Condition: No visible cracks, losses, or signs of restoration under UV light. No chips to the rim; minute chips to the footrim, which do not alter the overall appearance of the item. Original glazing flaw to the exterior as shown in the listing image. To the glazing flawed area, there is a minute original firing flaw. Along the underside, the footrim is discolored dark. To the inner circle of the footrim, there is an adhesive residue.

Chinese unglazed red pottery horse, possibly Eastern Han or Tang dynasty. A mingqi sculptural mortuary or spirit object. The horse strides or prances forward with its docked tail held high. With an S-curved neck and a well-sculpted head featuring open mouth, flared nostrils, and protuberant eyes under curved brows. The long, pointed ears are pricked upwards on either side of a gently sloped roached mane. The gracefully curving horse turns its head slightly to one side, commanding the attention of the viewer. It was through his travels that he was inspired to begin a lifelong relationship with the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), becoming a major sponsor of the institute and facilitating the growth of their Asian art department, which is now one of the best in the country. His generous donations to Mia allowed them to establish a fund for the Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer, one of the few endowed positions of this type in the museum field. He additionally served as a trustee of the institute, advocating for its operational growth. In its turn, the museum established a gallery named in his honor in recognition for his endowment fund and numerous contributions to their collection. The selections here showcase his talent and breadth of collecting, ranging from ancient statues to 19th-century woodblock prints. His appreciation for art persisted throughout his life and we are honored to offer items from his collection in this auction.Horse; height: 37 in x width: 26 in x depth: 9 1/2 in. Base; height: 11 in x width: 38 in x depth: 18 in.Condition: Overall there are no major cracks or losses. There is general wear throughout as expected from an item of this age. There is natural variation to the color of the horse including a darker head and a lighter tail. There are small chips throughout, some are natural minute losses to the material and possibly original to the artistic process. Along the left shoulder of the horse there is an uneven area of lighter-colored accretions that is slightly rougher than the area around it. There is a small chip along the back left hoof; there is a minute chip along the tip of the right ear; there are several small chips along the right shoulder; there are a few small chips along the right side of the jaw; there are small chips throughout the flared lips; there is a chip near the front of the left shoulder; there are a few chips along the front right hoof. There are hairline cracks throughout. The largest hairline cracks are in the following locations: around the circumference of the back left leg near the hock; there is a oval-shaped hairline crack along the front right knee; there is one along the center of the back; there is a T-shaped crack along the left cheek. There are two spots along the back of the horse along the aforementioned hairline crack where the ceramic is darker than the surrounding material. There is wear to the base including some areas of discoloration from the ceramic hoofs.

The belt buckle with an incised landscape featuring a building and a tree.Length: 10 1/2 in. Pendant; height: 2 1/2 in x width: 2 1/4 in.Condition: Wear throughout the item. There are several chips to the stones; please see the listing image. No visible signs of restoration under UV light. The clip opens and closes smoothly. Losses to the back of the buckle pendant. All stones are firmly attached to the string.

George III mahogany linen press with an open and blind fretted cornice above two panel doors enclosing linen slides, above two short and one long drawer with brass swan neck handles, raised on ogee bracket feet, 127cms wide x 62cms deep x 226cms highYes, comes in to three parts from the cornice, upper and lower. The major fault with this item is the badly warped right hand door. Otherwise the piece is in reasonable overall condition. Consistent with age. Locks appear original, handles appear correct but some have new nuts.
