Presentation copy, the half-title signed in bold black ink by the president of the United States to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, 'To my good friend Harold Wilson - on the occasion of his first visit to our shores as the Leader of a great nation - with every good wish, Lyndon B Johnson'. An interesting item that captures a sense of early optimism, contrasting sharply with the perceived view of an unsatisfactory "Special Relationship" between the president and Prime Minister (with disagreements over issues such as the war in Vietnam). Full green calf with gilt Seal of the President of the United States and gilt presentation inscription to upper board, 'The Right Honorable Harold Wilson, O.B.E., M.P. Prime Minister of the United Kingdom', with the same gilt details repeated to the slipcase; all page edges gilt. Good, clean, bright; slight discolouration and very faint wear to edges
