Canada.- Restigouche River.- [Kies (William)] Salmon Fishing on the Restigouche, [?one of 20 copies], photographic illustrations, original printed wrappers, housed within modern custom-made morocco-backed drop-back box, [Chicago], [privately printed], 1938 § Fitch (Charles E., editor) Recollections. Abraham Lansing, [and] the Log-Book of Camp Albany, together 2 parts in 1, one of 300 copies, plates, original cloth, privately printed, 1909, [together Wood BSS 105 & 107]; and 4 others, including a rare pamphlet by Jack Russell, 'Angling and Hunting on the Restigouche' and a fine silver gelatine photograph of 'Indian House Lodge Restigouche River' (mounted and within box), both [1920s], v.s. (8) *** A varied group of items relating to salmon fishing on the Restigouche River in New Brunswick (Quebec, Canada). Some are well-known within the canon of Canadian angling literature (Lansing) while others are rarities, such as the Russel pamphlet. Wood describes the Kies work (first item) as, 'one of the legendary salmon rarities', widely believed to have been only 6 in limitation.

(7)  *** A group of mostly early 20th century detailed and entertaining manuscript logbooks and fishing diaries of salmon fishing in Scotland and Canada, some charmingly illustrated with the addition of the photo snap-shots. The final item mentioned, however, is an astonishing record of the salmon caught on a trip to the Alten (Alta) River in Norway, 4th July-12th August 1845; 193 salmon are listed, average weight 14lb but the largest 40lb on 11th August.

A Poem, first edition, lacking half-title, title in red & black with engraved vignette (slightly soiled), advertisement leaf at end, book-label and inscription of architect Roderick Gradidge, later vellum-backed boards, a little faded and a few stains, R.Dodsley, 1744, 8vo & 4to (3) *** The first two items arose from the controversy engendered by the publication in 1794 of Richard Payne Knight’s poem The Landscape and Uvedale Price’s An Essay on the Picturesque.  The first item, written by Price in reply to a pamphlet by Humphrey Repton, emphasises Price’s view that landscape gardening should be founded on the same principles as landscape painting, while the second by William Marshall defends Capability Brown against accusations, particularly by Price, that the clumps and belts so favoured by Brown and his followers were planted in too formal a manner.

A XIX Century Essex Crystal Style Oval Locket Pendant, oval set to the centre, reverse painted with a monogram within pearl and coral set border (glazed locket verso), below pearl set bail, suspended from a later plain bar brooch stamped "Rolled Gold", overall length 6.4cm.Total weight of item is approximately 20.6grams.Some small scratches to the centre noted, one pearl has a small nick noted, but all stones seem to be set securely with well pointed claws. The surmount has allover abbrasions and tarnishing due to age, makers mark on the bar is still prominent with no rubbing, reverse glass sits flush. No obvious signs of repair or soldering.

A Chinese Qing Dynasty blue glaze and gilt porcelain dragon pattern dish, a pair of dragons with the flaming Pearl of Wisdom between them, gilt rim, six character mark to base '大清光緒蜜製' (translated to English as "Made during the Guangxu period of the Great Qing."), Base mark indicates that the item was produced in the Guangxu era, which lasted from 1875 to 1908, during the Qing Dynasty in China. 29.5 cm diameter. Condition Report: In fair condition with moderate wear to gilt on surface and rim commensurate with age, significant wear to gilt to base. Pitting to base, minor wear to six character marks.

A extremely rare 1847 Daguerreotype of Giuseppe Mazzini (1805-1872) taken by Antoine Claudet (1797-1867), depicting Mazzini posed with his head in his hand whilst leaning on a book upon a table beside him, gazing at the viewer, a note pinned to velvet lining of case reads 'Daguerreotype of Mazzini taken by Claudet in 1847 ("Mazzini's letters to an English family" Vol 1. p.60)', photo 7 x 6cm, case 9.5 x 8.5cm.  Provenance: Giuseppe Mazzini was an Italian politician, journalist, and activist for the unification of Italy (Risorgimento) and spearhead of the Italian revolutionary movement. His efforts helped bring about the independent and unified Italy in place of the several separate states, many dominated by foreign powers, that existed until the 19th century.  The photographer of this portrait, Antoine Claudet, became one of England's first commercial photographers using the daguerreotype process for portraiture, improving the sensitising process by using chlorine (instead of bromine) in addition to iodine, thus gaining greater rapidity of action. In addition to this, he also invented the red darkroom safelight, and photographed significant figures such as Michael Faraday and Charles Babbage. His daguerreotype of Hemi Pomara, in the National Library of Australia, is the oldest known photograph of any Māori person. This item belongs to the Estate of the late William Lloyd George, 3rd Viscount Tenby (1927-2023), the grandson of David Lloyd George, 1st Earl of Dwyfor (1863-1945) the British Prime Minister from 1916 to 1922 during WWI, who was known to be influenced by Giuseppe Mazzini.
