Lot 352

A Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica earthenware vessel, with low bun feet and incised decoration, 5 x 8cm; and a red terracotta figure, probably a bowl handle, 13cm long Found by the vendor's grandfather Charles Herbert Lankester (1879-1969), whilst farming for coffee in the Chachi and Las Concovas Cartago region, Costa Rica in the early 1900s. It is believed by the vendor that this item was brought to England before World War II. Charles Herbert Lankester (1879-1969) was a dominant figure of Central American orchidology. Better known as 'Don Carlos', Lankester was born in Southampton, England, on June 14 1879 he was offered a position to work as an assistant to the recently founded Sarapiquí Coffee Estates Company in Costa Rica. Many of the plants he saw and collected were new species. With no literature at his hand to determine the plants he collected, Lankester started corresponding with the assistant director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, Arthur Hill in 1910. He returned to England in 1920 to enrol his five children in English schools. Lankester travelled to Africa from 1920 to 1922, hired by the British Government to conduct research into coffee plantations in Uganda. In 1955, after his wife's death and already 76 years old, Lankester decided to sell his farm but retained the small part which contained his garden, a piece of land called "El Silvestre". Lankester moved to a house he had bought in Moravia, one of the suburbs of the capital, San José. On this farm, Lankester began his wonderful collections of orchids and other plants, which formed the basis of the Charles H. Lankester Botanical Garden of the University of Costa Rica.

Lot 237

A highly-developed, 350bhp, British-built sports car offering 0-60 in three seconds, this highly-specified example has covered just 99 miles and in 'as new' condition.   In 2012 a pair of car industry professionals, Ansar Ali and Mark Edwards – who had both worked at Lotus and Caterham - decided the time was right to produce a new type of lightweight high-performance sports car, one that combined maximum driving thrills with maximum accessibility - Zenos Cars was born. Less than two years later, Zenos showed its first car, the E10, clearly demonstrating their single-minded determination to use innovation to benefit the experience it delivers to its owners. Production began a few months afterwards, shortly followed by their second model, the E10 S, providing the same engaging experience with even more performance. In November 2015 Zenos announced the pinnacle of the E10 range, the E10 R, offering further development, performance and configuration options. While the E10 S uses a 2-litre EcoBoost engine, the E10 R is fitted with the bigger 2.3-litre unit, similar to that in the Ford Focus RS. In the Zenos it’s good for 350bhp and 350lb/ft of torque. According to company founder, Mark Edwards, he and his team achieved the power figures they had targeted on the first day on the dyno without having to stress the engine too hard. 'We could have had even more power, but we don’t want owners to have to rebuild their engines every year' he says. 'Ford has tested these engines to the moon and back and they’ve got bags of power'.The gearbox is still a 6-speed manual transverse unit gearbox for the E10 R, but the shift action has been shortened for a more precise and direct throw and the gear knob itself is now a bespoke Zenos item. Zenos estimates 0-62mph in three seconds and 155mph flat out. Weighing just 700kg (dry) the E10 R has a power to weight ratio of 508bhp/tonne, which puts it firmly in the performance car big leagues.Standard features of the E10 R include a hybrid carbon-composite cockpit/aluminium spine with steel rollover and side-impact protection system, double wishbone front and rear suspension with Bilstein dampers (in-board front) for incredible handling, O.Z. lightweight racing wheels with Avon ZZR tyres. This particular example features full carbon seats with harnesses, plus the full-sized windscreen. A fully specified E10 R was a £50,000 sportscar when new.The car presented here is a 2016 Zenos E10 R which is UK-registered having covered just 99 delivery miles; indeed, the seats are still plastic-covered and the car has barely been touched.Despite delivering just over 100 cars to customers and what was pretty much universal praise, Zenos hit a financial trouble in early 2017 and fell into administration. The original team behind Zenos moved onto other things. Notably, Ansar Ali went on to be in charge of McLaren's SVO and Matt Windle, who joined Zenos slightly later as Operations Director, has gone even further to become Lotus' CEO.However, do not worry, as there is a very active Zenos-movement out there, with 24-7 Motorsport of Norfolk still providing servicing, upgrades, advice, parts etc. for customers' cars. Give them a call if you are even half-interested in this car.Estimated at £25,000 - £30,000 this 'new' car is substantially cheaper than it would have been if sold when Zenos still existed – so why not be the lead car at every track day you attend and enjoy owning a rare and very well developed British sportscar?Specification Make: ZENOS Model: E10 2.3 R ROADSTER Year: 2016 Chassis Number: SA9FRFRR6GW341096 Registration Number: HX66 HLV Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 99 Miles Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 166

Well specified manual gearbox car in a stylish colour combination with just over 31,000 miles. At the Geneva Show in March 1999, as a replacement for their much-admired F355, Ferrari introduced the 360 Modena to critical acclaim and not unsurprisingly, within weeks there was a two year waiting list. The 355 was a tough act to follow, but the 360 was rather special - its all-aluminium construction (a first for Ferrari) was revolutionary, resulting in a much lighter car along with increased rigidity (40% lighter than the 355's steel platform but also nearly 30% stiffer), whilst also improving the under-body aerodynamics using knowledge gained from Ferrari's F1 programme. All this combined with the flowing Pininfarina lines, computer-controlled suspension, a staggering 400bhp, 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and 186mph - immediately made its predecessor, the excellent 355, feel rather dated. The Modena also saw a new word introduced into Ferrari reviews - 'reliability'. The engineering had been more thoroughly thought through and this was (and still is) reflected in lower servicing costs than for earlier mid-engined examples of the 'Prancing Horse'. Higher levels of quality too meant that the 360 became one of the first truly modern Ferraris that could realistically be used every day. That didn't detract from the excitement factor however, with strong performance, a searing engine note and a very capable chassis.Supplied by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd, this right-hand drive 360 Modena is fitted with the desirable manual gearbox and looks particularly special in Argento Nürburgring with a rare Bordeaux and black leather interior. It's still fitted with the OE equipment Becker Ferrari radio with the original instruction leaflet. Well specified from new with factory Wing Shields, a 'Challenge' rear grille and full electric seats, it was later treated to a Nouvalari sports silencer which just takes the exhaust note under load to a different level. The indicated mileage of 31,484 is supported by a full service record detailing a major service conducted just over 1,000 miles ago which included cam belts, air-conditioning belt and water pump. The service book contains 14 service stamps at the correct mileages, with either main dealers or specialists and the MOT is valid until August 2025. The car is supplied with all its original manuals, a full Ferrari toolkit, interior dust cover, Ferrari soft briefcase, Ferrari documents case with torch, four keys and two fobs including the original red item. Being finished in a colour combination away from the obligatory makes this lovely Ferrari in 6-speed manual form a very interesting proposition, as earlier Modena examples are now catching the eye and beginning to come of age.Specification Make: FERRARI Model: 360 MODENA Year: 2001 Chassis Number: ZFFYR51C000122444 Registration Number: X866 MGJ Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 59966 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 31484 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Black/Bordeaux LeatherClick here for more details and images

Lot 190

Late production 2CV fully restored and attractively presented as a 'Michelin Pneus' Fourgonette. Offered without Reserve. The 2CV Van was launched in 1950 as the AU. In 1954 the engine was uprated from 375cc to 425cc and the model renamed AZU. It was to remain in production until 1972, with many detail changes over the years and was the last A-Series to keep 'old-style' mechanicals, with 425 engine and chassis-mounted pedal gear. In 1972 the AZU 250 saw the coachwork changed from 'small-ripple to large ripple' and the installation of the 435cc engine, first seen in the Dyane 4 in 1968 and the 2CV4 in 1970. With a few mechanical changes, it became the AZU 250 GA (Grandes Administrations) in 1975, and production ceased in 1978.On offer here is an interesting 2CV AZU 250 that is excitingly offered without Reserve. Looking like a 1950's support vehicle from the Tour de France, this Citroën was restored by Pete Abbot of Deux Chevaux in Lincs, one of the UK’s most respected 2CV specialists. The van features 1950s style genuine Citroën ripple bodywork and is not to be confused with fibreglass replicas. Sitting on a galvanised Citroën chassis, it's powered by a later 602cc unit fitted with 123 electronic ignition making it an eager starter and very economical. Disc brakes assist retardation when fully loaded and the van sits on nearly new Michelins. The easily removable large wooden roof rack can carry 8 x 4 sheets and this, combined with the large van rear, makes this a really effective load carrier (within reason!). It's very well presented in the iconic Gris Clair colour scheme with attractive 'Michelin Pneus' graphics. The 2CV is accompanied by a big box of spares containing belts, starter motor, indicator lenses, LHM fluid, gaiters etc. There is also a good history file with restoration photos, UK V5C etc. Excitingly offered without Reserve, this could make a great light commercial vehicle or just a genuinely fun item to use and enjoy.Specification Make: CITROËN Model: 2CV Year: 1978 Chassis Number: AKAP01AP9445 Registration Number: CFE 854S Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 0483083214 Drive Side: Left-hand DriveClick here for more details and images

Lot 153

Offered without Reserve from The Recreation Collection, this very pretty car has many period parts such as Borrani wire wheels and a £4,000 stainless steel exhaust system. The Recreation Collection was assembled by a gentleman, now deceased, who had a passion for cars, owning at one stage some 38 vehicles. A particular enthusiasm of his was for replicas of the rarest and therefore most expensive examples. Judging by the receipts on file and the high prices paid in period, he could’ve bought at least one real example for the price he paid for the others! These are special cars and worthy of serious consideration, offered, tantalisingly as they are, without Reserve. We understand that this fabulous right-hand drive tribute car was the dream of an Italian gentleman, a former Chairman of two Italian sports car clubs. Based on a UK-supplied 1997 BMW Z3 M Sport, itself a highly desirable car and one that is the identical size, wheel-to-wheel to the original, the recreation was a labour of love that offers the attention-gathering beauty and appeal of the original combined with the benefits of modern motoring technology and German engineering.Every item on the car, from the body panels to the seats, has either been bespoke manufactured or purchased from Ferrari or GTO Engineering. Original Ferrari parts include the indicator stalks, installed at a cost of €1,800, grille, window winders, door handles, badging, headlamps and rear view mirror. Even the ashtray is an original Ferrari item, bought from GTO Engineering for £400. To acquire one correct Nardi steering wheel as sported by the orignal, the owner actually had to buy four of them. The car runs on the original size Pirelli tyres, wrapped around an €8,000 set of Borrani wheels. The £4,000 stainless steel exhaust features a resonator box and sounds not dissimilar to a V12 on carburettors. To create the bumpers, the previous owner had a mould made and the bumpers were then cast in stainless steel, at a cost of £3,000. The engine is a 325bhp BMW M3 E36 unit. Beneath the period radio sits a speaker with a difference. Entirely in keeping with the original styling, this was made specially in Germany by Becker. It pulls down to reveal the air conditioning controls hidden behind. The original BMW Z3M sustained repairable damage on the 25th May 2000 and was subject to an insurance Category D marker. Given the car’s new lease of life in 2017, it was subsequently registered at the time as a Black California Spyder, we welcome close inspection of this special vehicle.Presented to auction with its V5C, historic bills, brochure and previous MOT Certificates, the most recent of which is valid until 24th September 2025.Specification Make: BMW Model: Z3 ROADSTER Year: 1997 Chassis Number: WBSCK91050LD20287 Registration Number: BPR 726A Transmission: Manual Engine Number: TBA Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 1462 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images
