Copiose annotazioni in greco, forse riferibili a Leone Allacci. Collation: α4, 2α-ω4, Α-Ε4. [4], 115 [i.e. 116] leaves. Text in Greek; in Latin Du Tillet's dedicatory epistle to Cardinal François de Tournon. Woodcut printer's device on the title-page; blank space for capital on fol. α1r, with guide letter. Early 20th-century vellum over pasteboards. Smooth spine, decorated with small gilt tools, title lettered in gold on morocco lettering-piece; gilt inscription 'Postille Allacci' on other lettering-piece. Pale blue silk bookmark (slightly faded). The original flyleaves preserved. A good copy, leaves uniformly browned, foxing. A few early ink stains, minor marginal tears to a few leaves. Small loss to the blank outer margin of fol. ω2. Copiously annotated in Greek, possibly by Leone Allacci. Latin marginalia in two different hands. Cutting from an Italian sale catalogue, pasted on the front pastedown and describing this copy (lot 781). The note 'v.C.6' inked on the title-page, possibly attesting the provenance from the Bibliotheca Palatina of Heidelberg.Remarkable collection of apostolic decrees issued from the First Council of Nicaea (A.D. 325) to the Second Councli of Nicaea (A.D. 787), and edited by Jean Du Tillet (d. 1570), secretary to King Francis I. The volume is copiously annotated - mostly in Greek - by different hands, one of them could be referred to the renowned Greek-born scholar Leo Allatius (1586-1669), scriptor for Greek at the Vatican Library. In 1622 he managed and supervised the packing and transportation to Rome of the celebrated Palatine Library of Heidelberg, part of the booty assigned to Pope Gregorius XV after the victory over the Palatinate, during the Thirty Years War. The books were quickly listed and divided into 196 numbered crates, whose number was also written on the upper cover or the title-page of every item. The volumes were incorporated in the Vatican Library in 1623, and Allacci had set twelve crates aside for himself, mostly containing Greek books. He bequeathed them to the Collegium Graecum in Rome for the use of the students, and the collection was later partly sold. The note 'v.C.6' inked on the title-page of this copy of the Apostolorum et Sanctorum Conciliorum decreta could be referred to the 'capsa' or crate no. 6, a possible evidence of its provenance from the Heidelberg Library. Pettegree-Walshby, French Books 67032.

A VERY RARE SET OF TWELVE MAHOGANY CONCERTINA-ACTION CAMPAIGN OR NAVAL CHAIRS, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1795 including a pair of armchairs, each having a rectangular back with three pierced and tapering vertical bar splats headed with leaf carved detail, the original seat pads with their horsehair stuffing and webbing, on square legs joined by stretchers, the inner cross stretcher lifting out to enable each chair seat to fold away after the seat pad has been removed -- 35 x 20¼ x 16¼in. (89 x 51.5 x 41cm.) Provenance: Recently discovered in the cellars of a house in Spain The design for this fashionable chair-back appears in Thomas Sheraton's 'Cabinet-Maker's and Upholsterer's Drawing Book' published in four parts 1791-1794. It is very rare to find such a complete and long set of 18th century Campaign or Naval chairs, in fact no other known sets of twelve are documented. The very nature of their design and use made such chairs vulnerable to wear and tear. The speed with which these chairs can be folded and packed made them ideal for use in the Navy where it would be necessary to clear the decks very quickly. There is a similar group in Nelson's cabin aboard H.M.S. Victory , although some are reproductions. A set of four plus one armchair (although with cane seats) belonging to Admiral Boscawen are recorded in 'Some aspects of 18th century Naval Furniture', by Treve Rosoman, an article published in The Journal of The Furniture History Society, Vol XXXIII, 1997. A similar example with a padded seat, but plain vertical bars in the back, was included in the exhibition catalogue 'At Ease Gentlemen: A catalogue of 18th, 19th and early 20th Century Campaign Furniture and Travel Equipment', published by Christopher Clarke (Antiques) Ltd., 2002, item 8. One chair and one armchair will be on view at Blythe Road, the remaining chairs will remain at Imperial Road

Correct for this type of helmet is the two piece brown leather chinstrap and the early pattern oilskin six tongue liner system. Fitted loosely to the helmet shell is its original hessian sacking four panel trench cover with turned over brim section. It looks as if some numbers have been written on the top of the cover in each panel, possibly something that has been done by children playing with the item after the war. The Australian soldiers in action against the Turkish forces nicknamed the grenade, “The Cricket Ball” because of its shape and also the first issues had a longer fuse, so these were quite often returned by opposing troops, the Turkish forces later made a shorter fuse.

1981 Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk II, 950 cc (see text). Registration number UNM 755M. Frame number 23226. Engine number 82726. The Le Mans 850 café racer was first shown at the Milan motorcycle show in November 1975 and sales began in 1976. Like the 750S and the 750 S3, the Le Mans 850 was developed from the 53 hp V7 Sport model of 1971, but power was increased to 71 hp, giving a top speed of 130 mph. Compared to its roadster sibling, the T3, the Le Mans had higher-compression domed pistons, larger engine valves, and Dell'Orto 36 mm pumper carbs with filterless velocity stacks with clip-on handlebars and a bikini nose fairing. The Mark II (1978 - 1981) was similar to the Mark I, but the small 'bikini" fairing became a larger half-fairing incorporating indicators. The fairing had been tested in Moto Guzzi's wind tunnel (which had been used to test race bike fairings in the 1950s). The new fairing had a rectangular headlight, rather than the earlier round item. Cylinder bores were coated with Moto Guzzi's patented "Nikasil". Front suspension became air-assisted. The brake calipers on the front wheel, previously mounted on the front, were now mounted behind the forks. A new dual seat could now carry a pillion. Further changes included a revised instrument cluster derived from the 1000 cc SP. Brakes were linked, with the handlebar lever operating the front right caliper and the foot brake operating both the front left and rear caliper. Described by Bike magazine as 'the sleekest, horniest thing you've ever seen on two wheels', the Le Mans looked like it was doing 100mph while stationary and on the open road delivered 130mph-plus performance. Without doubt one of the definitive superbikes of the 1970s and today highly collectible. UNM was first registered on the 31st March 1981 and in long term ownership from the 26th February 1982 with David Kinsella of Runcorn until our vendor bought it in February 1996. When he purchased it the fairing had been replaced by a twin headlight version (original type included in the spares); over the years in his ownership it has been well maintained and in the early 2000's the engine was upgraded to 950 cc from the original 850 cc (original barrels are included in the spares), K & N air filters were fitted (original stacks are in the spares), Jota bars replaced the clip ons for comfort (original bars are in the spares), the frame was powder coated and the body work resprayed in green over red. In 2011 a new clutch was fitted. The extensive MOT history confirms the current mileage of some 35,000 and a new MOT will be with it for the auction. On a SORN since 2016, it is sold with the V5C, V5, original owner's manual, new MOT, old MOT's, large history/receipt folder, rear carrier and a quantity of spares including spare pipes, the old barrels and a luggage rack.
