Leader of the Circus. Brought down 82 planes. Himself brought down by machine gunfire 22/4/18 by 3rd Australians, (12 cm x 5 cm) together with related correspondence and provenance, "This item was given to Miss Rosina Hitchins of Bromley, Kent by her cousin, Sergeant H W Pike, deceased, who had charge of the machine, after being at the scene of action." [Acquired following publication of a letter published in the Daily Telegraph in 1969 requesting approaches from former service personnel who had witnessed the downing of Richthofen or the wreckage of his Fokker Dr 1]

An ornate rococo silver spirit kettle with floral and acanthus repousse decoration, the spout in the form of a bird's head, on acanthus capped S scroll legs and shell feet, by Daniel & John Wellby, London 1894. 54oz. (See illustration) Condition report: The item has been used and also polished but not to enormous detriment.
