Opiz (Georg Emanuel) [Die Schweizer nach ihrer Volksthuemlichkeit in sechs charakteristischen Gruppen], first edition, 6 exceptionally fine hand-coloured soft-ground etched plates by Hilscher after Opiz, each within border and with caption in panel beneath, tissue guards, near contemporary green cloth, lettered in gilt on upper cover, modern paper spine label, [Colas 2251 'tres belles planches'; Bobins 495], 4to, [Dresden, Ludwig von Kleist], [c.1830].⁂ The title is taken from Colas, the original work originally being published in wrappers with title on upper cover. The plates depict characteristically dressed citizens with a background of a city or village within a border hand-tinted in light grey. Opiz (or Opitz) was born in Prague in 1775, studied at Dresden, worked in Paris and various German cities and ended up in Leipzig, where he died in 1841.Provenance: Prince of Hanau (bookplate "Bibliothek Ihrer Durchlaucht der Fuerstin von Hanau").

A ‘famille-rose’ blue ground scraffiato wall vase, 19th century, the ovoid body with a landscape panel on a stepped base and below a flared neck flanked by moulded guei dragon handles, base with apocryphal four character seal mark of Qianlong in iron-red(pieces to neck restuck), 21.5cm. A similar wall vase, but with a puce scraffiato ground and a calligraphic panel, also dated to the 19th century was sold at Christies, 6th March 2003, lot 335 for £3,290.
A Japanese Kutani vase, Meiji period or later, 20th century. The pear-shaped body rising to a waisted neck with a flared and lobed rim, decorated with a shaped panel of two figures courting in a garden below a small landscape panel, the reverse with a pair of pheasants amongst flowers, (wood stand) 31.3cm. Condition: minor glaze frits to rim minor wear, otherwise good.
