Grande Semaine D'Aviation De La Champagne 1909, a printed and embossed panel decorated with two early planes and Reims Cathedral, 15.5cm x 7.75cm, framed This was the first international flying event in the world, held in August 1909 and is seen as a marker in history for the heavier than air aviation.
A 16th century riven oak ark or food hutch, the barrel top initialled I.J.K and dated 1548 and with chip carved detailing, with a clamped front and standard end supports, later carved detailing, 53cm H x 93cm W x 43cm D. Such chests are a traditional form of early oak furniture and were used as grain stores. They are constructed of coarse planks and the lids could be detached and be used as a kneading trough, hence the flat raised sections either side of the lid. The carved detail and date are not original, probably Victorian carving. The top has an old crack to the front panel but nothing serious. Both of the back sections to the side bars top the top of the lid have been reattached but not recently. The lock and clasp is old but not original. The curved / serpentine base rails on the front and sides are not original, later block to the underside at each end to support the side examples. One old repair to this curved detailing on the front. Despite faults colour good and overall appearance ok.
