Ken Lilly (British, 1929 - 1996) "Hare" Initialed lower left. Original Watercolor painting on Paper. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood Mint Stamps of the World Panel for the U.S.S.R. Wildlife issue of 1989. Members of the leporidae family, hares are animals with roots reaching back into the Paleocene era. This familiar long-eared creature is even mentioned in folklore and mythology, for the Germanic earth goddess Ostara favored hares above all other animals. Contrary to some popular thought, hares are not forest or deep woodland creatures. They commonly occur in open terrain and around cultivated fields which yield year-round sustenance for the population. Hares avoid high elevations and cold, moist ground, preferring warm, dry habitats with rich loamy ground cvoerings. These animals are non-migratory and usually live their lives within a mile or two of their birthplace. Hares are born fully furred and are nursed for two to three weeks thereafter. After weaning, the young hares eat adult fare. Wild hares are strictly herbivorous, and their diet includes green plants, twigs, bark, shrubs and weed seeds. In cultivated areas, hares frequently help themselves to produce such as cabbage, parsley and winter grains. Their eyesight is relatively poor; they can usually detect movement, but little else. Hares depend upon their sharpest senses -- hearing and smell -- to alert them to danger and often stand on their powerful hind legs to test their surroundings. Image Size: 13.75 x 11 in. Overall Size: 18 x 14.5 in. Unframed. (B12111)
John Swatsley (American, B. 1937) "Princess Coronation Class Locomotive" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Illustration Board. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood Mint Stamps of the World Panel for St. Lucia Locomotives Stamps issued October 13, 1983. LMS 4-6-2 Princess Coronation Class The Duchess of Buccleuch was built in 1938. Although the "Princess Royal" class was a vast leap forward in LMS motive power, improved services by the LNER to Scotland and the fashion for streamlined locomotive design in the mid-1930's meant that the LMS needed something to top the "Princess Royal" class. Stanier threw away a lot of his earlier design policies inherited from the GWR and came up with what is considered to be his finest creation, the "Princess Coronation" class (sometimes referred as the "Duchess" class); this despite the fact that he personally felt (and probably with some justification considering later events) that streamlining was a waste of time, at least with the facilities that the LMS had at the time. The LMS wanted a engine capable of hauling long-range expresses in excess of 100mph; on the 29th June 1937, the first engine of the class 6220 "Coronation" exceeded these expectations, reaching a speed of at least 113mph on the inaugural run of the "Coronation Scot", the LMS's new London-Glasgow express Unfortunately, the "Coronation Scot" was a short-lived serviced. It never really lived up to the LMS's expectations, and the onset of World War Two finished the service off. By 1944, 29 locomotives were in service, with 5 being built without streamlined casings. Another 9 would eventually be built, and of the class, 3 would eventually be preserved. Image Size: 12.25 x 2.75 in. Overall Size: 18.75 x 19 in. Unframed. (B08645)

Tom McNeely (Canadian, B. 1935) "Nicaragua Landscape" Signed lower left. Original Watercolor painting on Paper. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork was originally published on the Fleetwood Mint Stamps of the World Collectors Panel for the Nicaragua stamp issue of Ancient Ceramics. A congenial sun reflects off the crystal blue waters of Lake Nicaragua, the largest freshwater lake in Central America. Geologists believe that once this lake was part of the ocean, but volcanic activity raised the land and cut off these sea waters from the ocean. Over time, rivers pouring into the lake made the waters fresh. The marine life trapped inside the lake adapted from salt water to freshwater so that today, Lake Nicaragua holds the only species of freshwater sharks and tarpin in the world. This lake is only one of the many treasures awaiting visitors to Nicaragua. The country is also a land of many active volcanoes that sometimes reawaken into a dramatic fury of fire and ash. Nicaraguans have become accustomed to these fiery inhabitants of their land. In fact, the ash from these volcanoes has made the land some of the most fertile in Central America. On the eastern side of Nicaragua, a lush tropical jungle grows, supporting innumerable species of exotic orchids, trees, and birds. The haunting cries of the ocelot and the jaguar can also be heard emanating from the dark jungle. On the western coast, the rich soil supports thriving crops of coffee, cotton, sugar and bananas. This is the most developed part of Nicaragua where the majority of the population lives. The elegant capital city of Managua looks out upon Lake Managua, another large freshwater lake. Throughout the country, Spanish colonial architecture combines with the conveniences of technology to create a fascinating nation. Image Size: 23.75 x 17.25 in. Overall Size: 30 x 22.25 in. Unframed. George Sottung (American, 1927 - 1999) "Wildlife At a Mountain Lake" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork originally appeared on the Fleetwood Mint Stamps of the World Collectors Panel for the U.N. Economic Commission for Europe stamps issued March 15, 1991. In addition to breathtaking scenery, mountains have a major impact on the climate and state of civilization in the regions in which they are found. Mountains catch prevailing winds, and terrain on the windward side of mountains receives plentiful rainfall, while terrain on the leeward side is more arid. The colder climate of mountainous areas is less conducive to large human populations or agriculture, and therefore mountain habitats produce a diversity of flora and fauna. Their tundra regions provide short grazing grasses which feed wild goats and sheep, while mountain ponds teem with fish, beaver and marten. The coniferous forests provide safe havens for birds, squirrels and deer while furnishing through photosyntheses rich supplies of life-giving oxygen. Mountains and their surrounding terrain provide some of Earth's most majestic vistas, support a variety of wildlife and remain vitally important to the planet's environmental health. Image Size: 16.25 x 12.25 in. Overall Size: 19.25 x 17.25 in. Unframed. (B13159)
Howard Koslow (American, 1924 - 2016) "The Art of Picasso" Signed lower right. Original Acrylic painting on Canvasboard. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood Mint Stamps of the World Collectors Panel for the Spain Art of Picasso stamps issued December 1, 1987. Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was the most famous painter of the 1900's. In many ways, he was the artist most characteristic of this century, because he responded to changing conditions, moods and challenges so intensely and rapidly. He created about twenty thousand works in more than eighty years of his life, and these works were executed in a multiplicity of styles. Any effort to explain his work earned the contempt of Picasso. "Why does one love the night ... without trying to understand it? If only people would realize that an artist himself is only a trifling bit of the world ... and that no more importance should be attached to him than to plenty of other things which please us in the world, though we can't explain them. Everyone wants to understand art ... Why not try to understand the songs of a bird?" Image Size: 20.75 x 16.75 in. Overall Size: 26.25 x 22 in. Unframed. (B11168)
