WW2 German Luftwaffe Swastika Panel Cut From a Crashed Messerschmitt Bf 109 E, painted black swastika on green / grey aluminium metal two piece panel. Factory produced rivet holes across the panel. To the centre is a Messerschmitt AG plaque with serial numbers. Attached to the panel was a handwritten label indicating that this panel was taken from a Messerschmitt Bf 109.E. from the Port Tail Fin. Measures 33 ½ x 33 ½ cms. Sections of German crashed aircraft were very popular souvenirs gathered by RAF ground crews and local civilians. Many pieces were kept and hung in local pubs, ATC halls and RAF mess rooms. The Messerschmitt Bf109 more commonly known as a ME109, is one of the most iconic fighter aircraft of WW2. Many of the highest scoring Luftwaffe aces flew this aircraft. Ex Michael Baldwin collection.
WW2 German Luftwaffe Aircraft Balkan Cross Section Cut From Underside of Wing, fantastic large section of German crashed aircraft removed and taken as a souvenir. The section which measures approximately 113 x 94 ½ cms, shows the German Balkan cross. Due to the size and shape we believe this to have been taken from the underside of a wing. The section is made up of three panels riveted into place from the reverse. The section has two bullet holes which have penetrated the panel on the Balkan cross. A wonderful and iconic item. Ex the Late Michael Baldwin collection.
WW2 German Luftwaffe Swastika Tail Section from a Ju88 Aircraft, large section of aircraft aluminium taken from a single side of a tail section from a Luftwaffe Ju88 aircraft. Large black painted swastika with white border on green panel. Factory produced rivet holes to the outside edge, towards the bottom and in the swastika itself. Reverse has six open tube fittings. The panel is bent towards the bottom left hand side making a crease in the aluminium. Some areas of paint loss to the swastika which you would expect to see from a wrecked aircraft section. Measures 105 x 118cms at its widest point to the top. A fantastic iconic item of Luftwaffe history. Sections of aircraft like this were popular souvenirs to be taken from crashed German aircraft, especially during the Battle of Britain. Many of the large pieces like this were taken by the RAF and hung in various mess halls and later ATC centres. This item was found in the UK by the late vendor, Michael Baldwin. See two previous lots for the other aircraft pieces from the same collector. The Ju88 was a medium range bomber aircraft of the German Luftwaffe. They were a very efficient aircraft and many were flown during the Battle of Britain.
