An interesting relic, being a small panel 15.5cm x 23.5cm of pyramid chequerboard design in wood, mounted as an ornament, a silver plaque on reverse announces “This piece of wood was taken from the Madhi’s Tomb at Omdurman Sept 1898. J.G.R” (for John George Rennie), the plaque HM London 1898. GC (some wear) Note: The Mahdi’s tomb was damaged by bombardment September 1898 by Major W.S. Gordon, a nephew of General Gordon, acting on Kitchener’s order.
A Wilkinson Royal Wedding Commemorative sword, straight shallow diamond section blade 31½”, etched “To Commemorate the Marriage of The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer, 29 July 1981” with crests and wreaths, boat shaped guard with enamelled ornamental panel, the twin knucklebow inscribed with the couples’ full names, barrel shaped panel with enamelled crests, wirebound grip, silver cord knot. Mint condition
A carved mahogany panel from the top of a regimental notice board or similar, of the 28th Battery, The Royal Pembroke Royal Garrison Artillery Militia, 60½” x 11” max, with carved gun within crowned garter at each end, RA motto in scrolls, and “28 Royal Pembroke” in circle above, with “Ich Dien” motto (originally surmounted by the P.O.W. feathers, now missing). An early Vic 1822 pattern infantry officer’s sword, pipe backed blade 32½”, by Hamburger & Co 30 King St, Covent Garden, London, etched with crowned VR cypher and wreath within panel on each side, regulation copper hilt incorporating crowned VR cypher, turn down inner portion, wirebound fishskin grip, in its leather scabbard (AF) with brass locket and frog stud. Basically GC (some wear and light pitting, heavier towards point)
A good early Vic 1821 pattern light cavalry officer’s sword, slightly curved, pipe backed blade 35½”, by Andrews, 9 Pall Mall, etched with crown, VR cypher and wreath in panel on both sides, regulation steel hilt with sideloop, knucklebow and 2 sidebars, forward sloping stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wire bound fishskin grip in its steel scabbard with 2 rings. Near VGC, the blade retaining most original polish (light surface rust to scabbard). Plate 11
A late 19th century Bavarian light cavalry officer’s sword, slender curved, fullered blade 33”, marked Jos Rom Hoflieferant Wurzberg in panel at forte and etched “In Treue Fest” in scrolled foliate panels on either side, plain, flat curved guard, pommel and backstrap, ribbed composition grip. GC
A 19th century Mahsud dagger choora, T section blade 8½”, floral engraved WM lower hilt and central band, studded bone grips, in its leather sheath; a small bade bade in sheath; 4 other daggers; a leather shot flask with embossed oval panel of huntsman and hounds (spring missing). Generally GC (7)
A courtsword, c 1900, slender triangular section blade 30”, etched with trophies in foliate panels, ornamental gilt brass hilt, the turn down pierced shell guard incorporating crowned arms with supporters and motto “Nihil sine Deo”, crossguard with grapes finial, panelled pommel, scrolled MOP panel grip, with gilt locket and remains of scabbard. A Japanese Kenjo Imari Dish, late 18th century, the pierced diaper octagonal sides with black-seeded green ground enclosing a panel of two boys playing in a garden, fuki shoshun mark (happiness and long life), 25cm and an Imari dish, c.1800, painted with floral and kenjo panels around a flowering bonsai, 23.8cm (2)
BR(S) enamel Station Sign TOWN CENTRE with right facing arrow, white on green, then beneath FOR WEST STATION STRAIGHT AHEAD TURN RIGHT THEN FIRST LEFT, green on white in a panel. F/F measuring 36" x 30". Excellent condition with deep colour and shine and only minor chips. Ex Tunbridge Wells station.
Deltic Flamecut Cabside ex 55014 THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON`S REGIMENT. Built by the English Electric Company under works number 2919/D571 in September 1961 and allocated to Gateshead. Named in October 1963 at Darlington station by Major General KG Exham, Colonel of the Regiment. Scrapped at BREL Doncaster in February 1982. Measures 32½" x 34" and is a little roughly cut around the edge but looks exceptional. The York crest transfer has only a small amount remaining but the numerals and the data panel are extremely good. There is a small yellow triangle at the bottom, evidentially carried by only one other of the class. Comes with original receipt.
Totem BR(M) DEGANWY, F/F. Ex LNWR station on the North Wales coast between Llandudno Junction and Llandudno. Opened in 1868 together with adjacent wharfs on the Conwy Estuary to which it was planned to bring dressed slate from Blaenau Ffestiniog for export by sea. An uncommon totem in extremely good condition with one area of expert repair in the bottom panel beneath the `A`.
