John Blackburn, British 1932-2022 - Untitled, 1964; oil on panel, signed and dated lower right 'Blackburn 64', 22.8 x 25 cm (ARR) Note: In 1961 Blackburn’s works were exhibited alongside Ben Nicholson, Victor Pasmore and Terry Frost in the John Moores’ Liverpool Biennale, he would go onto exhibit at the Woodstock Gallery the following year, where his art was spotted by the influential art collector and gallerist, Jim Ede, who placed his work in Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, alongside Peter Lanyon, William Scott and Roger Hilton. Blackburn's popularity resurged in the early 2000s, where galleries such as Osbourne Samuel held exhibitions of his work.

William Samuel Horton, American 1865-1936 - Landscape study; oil on panel, inscribed on the reverse 'Horton L431', 23.5 x 33 cm Provenance: with Christies, South Kensington, Topographical Pictures 24th May 1990, lot 39, illus. p.34 Note: Horton spent a large part of his life living and training in France and England. Having trained along side Whistler, Monet, Degas and Pissarro, Horton developed his own personal style, influenced by the Impressionists. His primary focus was the effects of light on shapes, and he would often paint the same landscape at different times of the day, exploring the variation in light and shadows. Horton would go on to be one of the main members of the American Impressionist movement alongside Mary Cassett and Childe Hassam.
Marcel Delmotte, Belgian 1901-1984 - Portrait of a woman, 1943; oil on panel, signed and dated lower right 'M. DELMOTTE 1943', 122.5 x 91.5 cm (ARR) Note: Delmotte was considered to be a realist painter for the first part of his artistic career, influenced by the models of the Italian Renaissance, as well as Rubens and Ingres. The present portrait is of this early period, where the realism and almost sculptural form of the sitter can be seen. By the 1950s he turned towards a more symbolic style creating compositions with surreal landscapes and futuristic architectures.
