Robert Bateman (1842-1922), Still life of centifolia roses in a Staffordshire neo classical jug, signed bottom left and dated 1887, inscribed 'Mrs W Brinckman, Ribbesford House, Bewdley, oil on panel, 38 x 29cmRobert Bateman is often described as the 'Lost Pre-Raphelite'. As a painter he stood alongside artists such as Walter Crane (1845-1915) in profile and critical equivalence but has since been lost to a wider public with only a handful of works in public collections. He was the third son of James Bateman FRS (1811-1897) who built Biddulph Grange and its gardens in Staffordshire.
British school, WW2 sketches, oil on canvas, 122 x 214cmThis substantial painting appears to depict incidents from the North African campaign in the Second World War. The panel top centre is almost certainly an Allied (British Eighth Army and US Army) parade into either Algiers in November 1942 or Tripoli in February 1943 as the Vichy French and Germans were pushed out of North Africa. The artist remains unidentified but on balance almost certainly British. There are both US and British soldiers depicted and the British army had a long traditional of embedding war artists into military campaigns from the start of the Great War. This painting acts as a montage of events, from hospital interiors to courtrooms, perhaps witnessed by the artist while in the theatre of war. It also retains a Mediterranean feel in both palate and the portrayal of light.

A George III oak longcase clock, William Glover, Worcester, with eight day striking movement, dial width 30.5 cm, the case with moulded cornice, blind fretwork frieze, long trunk door and raised on bracket feet. Height 216 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The dial and movement are very clean. The movement winds on both trains and is ticking away and striking as it should. The date seems to operate when the movement is advanced manually. The case is in generally good condition with no significant issues. The hood is in generally good order. The left hand panel has an old vertical stress fracture. The door has a slight warp at the bottom left hand corner but in our opinion this is not problematic. The plinth panel has vertical stress fractures. The backboards are original.
A George III mahogany longcase clock by John Wyke of Liverpool, with mahogany and marquetry case, with brass finial above the swans neck pediment in turn above the arched glazed door enclosing the 13" arched dial with moon phase and two-train striking movement flanked by fluted columns in turn above a foliate carved frieze and long trunk door with marquetry depicting The Passage of Time, commerce and other images, flanked by fluted quarter column corners, the base with urn and cover foliate marquetry and all raised on four angled carved lions paw feet. Height including brass finial 252 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in extremely good order. The hood should have four turned wooden finials, the rear two are missing. Other than this and minor veneer stress fractures the hood is in first class condition. The door has some nibbles around the lock escutcheon. The mask that should be around the dial is completely missing. The dial does however seem to fit the glazed aperture. The movement winds on both trains and is currently ticking away and keeping good time. The second hand is detached but we have it. The trunk door is not warped and closes as it should. The inlay is in generally very good condition to all parts of the case. There are some old faint stress fractures to the base panel. The feet are all in good order. The backboards are original. Clearly the inlay to the case may well be later, it is however a very impressive clock. We have a door key and winder.
An Islamic hardwood hexagonal occasional table, inlaid with bone. Width +/- 50 cm, height 63 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table is structurally sound and is not warped. The top is in generally good condition with the exception of the centre star which is missing the inlaid mother of pearl sections. One of the side panels has a vertical stress fracture running through the top panel. The same panel has a break at the bottom of the pierced arch. Another panel has one mother of pearl roundel missing. Other than the faults mentioned there are no significant issues.
A Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh mahogany bedroom suite, comprising wardrobe, chest of drawers and side table, the chest of drawers stamped "Whytock & Reid" to the top drawer and in the manner of Robert Lorimer. Wardrobe width 137 cm, height 208 cm, chest width 100 cm, side cabinet 66 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bedside cabinet is structurally very sound with no significant condition issues. You will see from our image some minor scuffs to the pediment probably caused by lifting the glass top in and out. The drawer front is in good condition. The side are in good order. The left hand side is slightly faded. There are some surface scratches to the rear and small dings and marks to the feet as one would expect. The chest of drawers is structurally very sound again with no significant losses. The bottom drawer has a small loss to the top left hand corner. There is also water damage to the drawer fronts particularly drawers 3 & 4. The sides and rear of the cabinet are in generally very good order. There are some marks and scratches around the feet as one would expect. There is a watermark to the top on the right hand side. The wardrobe is again in generally very good structural condition. The cornice is in good order all around. The left hand side panel is faded and there are some scratches and marks presumably caused when the wardrobe has been moved. The right hand side is not faded and in generally better condition. The doors are of good colour with slight fading to the left hand side of the left door. There is no warping. The interior is in good condition. There are some scuffs and marks to the feet as one would expect.
Anthony Wishaw (b. 1930), acrylic/collage, "Reflections". 24 ins x 23 ins, framed, signed with initials, bearing Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 1991 label verso. ARR CONDITION REPORT: The picture is in generally good condition with no significant issues. It is a little dusty in places but we can see no evidence of any significant paint loss or damage. The bottom right hand corner of the centre mounted section does have a very small loss to the paint and a slight crushing of the panel. The black outer painted frame is also dusty and has some minor paint losses and small abrasions.
A good English porcelain jug, early to mid 19th century, with foliate moulded spout and rope twist rim heightened with gilding above a finely decorated panel of flowers against an amethyst ground within a gilt frame, flanked either side by gilt scrolls and baskets, the handle with foliate terminals heightened with gilding. A Shelley Sunset & Tall Trees coffee service, 6 cups, 6 saucers, 6 plates, sugar basin, cream jug, coffee pot and rectangular tray, green printed mark to base "Registered 723404" (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The coffee pot lid has no obvious faults. The coffee pot handle has been broken and re-attached leaving two very fine dark lines. There is a 2 cm scratch to the left of the main decoration on the reverse however this is not visible on the interior. The printed decoration on the reverse has a 5 cm white line across the print however this feels to be beneath the glaze and an error caused in manufacture. There is a 3 cm fine dark line to the foot of the coffee pot beneath the right hand panel of the main decoration. Again this is not visible from the interior and I would suggest it maybe a firing fault. Both the cream jug and sugar bowl appear to be in good order with no obvious faults. The sandwich tray has two 7 cm long unglazed patches to the underside of the rim, these are 12.5 cm apart. There appears to be no further issues. Five cups appear to be in good condition with no obvious faults, the sixth cup has been broken in half and glued and also has an open V shape crack which is loose. All six saucers appear to be in good condition with no obvious faults however only two ring out clearly, the others do not have a clear ring, but I repeat there are no obvious faults visible. Five side plates all appear to be in good order however, a sixth side plate has a very very fine 7 cm hairline crack to the centre underside which is partially visible on the surface. As with the saucers, three of the side plates ring our nicely, the remaining side plates have a dull ring.
A Famille Rose vase, late Quing, archaistic Hu form, with baluster body with elephant mask handles and each side with a circular panel of either a red or yellow Imperial dragon encircling a flaming pearl amongst clouds, all against a blue ground with Buddhist emblems. Height 24 cm, with wooden stand (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The vase rings out nicely when tapped. There is a fine 6 cm long hairline crack to the interior issuing from the rim downwards. This crack is not visible from the exterior. Other than that there are no further obvious faults. The wood stand on which the vase sits has a 4 cm section of rim that has been broken off and glued. An applied label to the bottom for Treeby and Bolton Oriental and British Pottery, Keswick.

Width 33 cm, height 30.3 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The top removable section appears to be in good order and free from any dents and knocks. The colour appears uniform throughout. The neck is a lighter colour brown than the remainder of the body which has a uniform dark chocolate colour. There are patches of verdigris to the interior and on the underside. There are no post production flaws that are obvious to the naked eye.
