A 17th/18th CENTURY OIL ON CANVAS LAID ON PANEL. Depicting the famous scene of the siege of Weinsberg with woman carrying their men out of the city 45.5cm high 51cm wide, with old text to reverse - In 1140, when an opposition castle was captured by King Konrad III, the women of the castle were granted free departure and allowed to take what they could carry on their backs. Thinking quickly, the woman carried the men on their backs. The King kept his word and let the men live.
