Percy Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957) for The Rebel Art Centre or Omega Workshops Robe, circa 1914 embroidered and block-printed silk robe with stylised foxes, fish, swans and kneeling figures 132cm long. Literature: Geoffrey Rayner, Richard Chamberlin and Annamarie Stapleton, Artist's Textiles 1949-1976, pp.14-15, plates 4a and 4b, similar example illustrated. Another textile panel with the same design was also sold in Textiles as Art: From the Collection of Paul Reeves in February 2017. The hand-blocked art silk robe in Artist's Textiles 1949-1976 was assessed by Dr. Linda Parry of the Victoria and Albert Museum's Department of Textiles to be the work of an avant-garde English artist, circa 1914. It was subsequently seen by the authority on the Omega Workshops and Rebel Art Centre, Dr. Judith Collins, who identified this design as the work of Wyndham Lewis. Although closely related to Lewis's slightly earlier applied designs for the Omega Workshops and The Cabaret Theatre Club, Dr. Collins considered it to date from 1914 and the period of Lewis's involvement with the Rebel Art Centre.
PHOEBE ANNA TRAQUAIR (ATTRIBUTED) an Arts and Crafts enamel panel and unmarked silver brooch, circa 1909, the enamel depicting a slumbering figure with two angels in attendance, one angel playing a stringed instrument, all in a landscape, with pallion detail and highlights, in an elongated hexagonal bead and cord border mount, 5 cm by 4 cm overall Note: This enamel is similar to the Traquair enamel panel, titled 'The Dream' in the V&A collection, M198-1976, signed, titled and dated 1909 to the reverse. This panel was part of an extensive donation to the V&A in 1976 from the artist's granddaughter Margaret Bartholomew. The example offered here is a reverse image of the same subject matter. The frame has similarities to a signed and dated pendant by Traquair titled 'The Awakening', 1903. We are indebted to Dr Elizabeth Cumming in identifying this work.
