An early 19th century George III period mahogany knee-hole desk - the reeded edge top above recessed fielded panel door enclosing a shelf flanked to the left by five small graduated drawers with Anglesey kite-shaped escutcheons and cast-brass swan-neck handles and four further, larger graduated drawers to the right, raised on bracket feet, with two large polished brass side carrying handles (99.5cm wide x 50.5cm deep x 71cm high) Condition Report: The two side panels look OK but the middle panel looks as though it has been replaced at some stage but not 'out of place'. The top evidently has a dark oval mark in the centre and the outer edges are much lighter/sun bleached. Some scratching, old water marks and a historic split in from the left-hand side (10cm from the back). Looking from the front the brass carrying handle has faded significantly and the Auctioneer's opinion is in need of a re-polish. The left hand side is slightly darker. There is a reeded edge top with a small vertical split but otherwise OK. Fading also evident on the front and on the left-hand bank of four smaller drawers the base drawer has a full width crack across the middle behind the handle. The central cupboard door opens to reveal a central shelf. The item is raised on bracket feet which look OK minus a few scuffs and knocks etc. commensurate with age. Auctioneer's opinion is that the piece does require work as outlined. Condition commensurate with age and usage.
An early 18th century oak side chair; the top rail unusually centrally pierced with a heart motif and flanked by two incised flowerheads, further over a single vertical fielded panel, two plank seat and turned and block front legs united by a high turned stretcher, the chair of good colour (112cm high)The Auctioneer reports thar the chair has a nice colour overall, the main observation is that both front legs have had ‘chamfering’ to the outside corners resulting in lighter wood being exposed (could be polished out), otherwise minor knocks and scratches.
