Bunge studiert ab 1928 an der Kunstschule Burg Giebichenstein Halle (Saale) bei Charles Crodel und Gerhard Marcks. Anschließend arbeitete er mehrere Jahre als Restaurator und leitete nach dem Krieg die Restaurierungswerkstätten beim Landeskonservator für Denkmalpflege Sachsen-Anhalt. 1956 nahm er an der 1. Internationalen Graphikausstellung im Victoria and Albert Museum in London teil. 1957 erhielt er eine Professur an der Kunsthochschule Burg Giebichenstein in Halle (Saale). Seit 1976 war er Mitglied der Darmstädter Sezession. Zu seinen Schülern zählen u.a. Otto Möhwald und Hannes H. Wagner. Untitled (Two women, Gerda Bunge and Katja Georgi). Oil on panel. The engine cowling lifts to reveal the engine, and to the rear of the driver's seat is a metal plaque which reads: 'GRAND PRIX FERRARI-LANCIA 801 F1, NÜRBURGRING 1957' and stamped with chassis serial number 01, and engine serial number F01.
