Anschließend arbeitete er mehrere Jahre als Restaurator und leitete nach dem Krieg die Restaurierungswerkstätten beim Landeskonservator für Denkmalpflege Sachsen-Anhalt. 1956 nahm er an der 1. Internationalen Graphikausstellung im Victoria and Albert Museum in London teil. 1957 erhielt er eine Professur an der Kunsthochschule Burg Giebichenstein in Halle (Saale).
