Mercedes 280e 1993 - Fast becoming a popular choice for the person that wants a classic car, one that can take the kids to school during the week and then to do the car shows in at the weekend, the 280e Mercedes ticks all the boxes and currently, at a ridiculously low price. The 6 cylinder engines are famed for the prodigious mileage they will do when maintained and after the corrosion problems of the 80’s, these marked a return to Mercedes quality. This particular car was registered to Mercedes from 93 to 94 when it was sold to its first private owner who then owned it until it was passed on to his son in his will. He then sold it to its current owner along with the fathers other car which he has kept and is offering this one at a low reserve. There was one other twist in the tale. When he HPi’d the car it showed as Cat C due to a claim in 2011. When asking the son if he knew this he claimed that the car had never had a claim while in his father’s ownership. The vendor then contacted various insurance companies etc that said they had no knowledge of a claim either. As a final go, he contacted Waterhouse Mercedes, who had serviced the car throughout its life and they did indeed find records of it having a new back bumper (only), in 2011. So that has to be it, you can deduce that the cost of a new rear bumper being supplied and fitted by Mercedes against the value of the car, resulted in it having a Cat C marker put on it! The overall exterior condition is very good, with just some slight lacquer peel in places and some corrosion to the road wheels. Interior is also good, again just some minor cracks on a facia panel. Engine wise everything is very good, with 159K on the clock it is just about run in and has always been serviced (Last service was at 156978 in 2015). The automatic transmission is very good as well, operating as designed, in fact the overall condition of the running gear is stated as very good. With its MOT current through to March next year and with its mechanics etc being all good, this is ready to go. A bit of class for less than a bad holiday for two in Benidorm, figure that?
