EDWARD HENRY EUGENE FLETCHER (1851-1945) "Estuary scene with sailing vessel and tug, a couple in tender in foreground", oil on board, together with another by the same hand with various shipping, a boy in foreground, oil on panel, 17.5 cm x 31 cm (2) CONDITION REPORTS Both pictures with some general dirt and scuffs, some of the areas of paint have "wrinkled", overall with a dusty/speckled type texture to the surface of the paint, and with lots of specks stuck to the paint, frames appear to have a gilt and varnished thick layer over them which is peeling and flaking away revealing a more gilt coloured surface beneath, generally with some wear, scuffs and chips, back of frames have a cardboard backing. Pictures are believed to be from a deceased estate.
19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL "Interior tavern scene", oil on panel, unsigned, indistinctly inscribed on old label verso, 31 cm x 25 cm CONDITION REPORTS Frame with various splits, cracks and chips, and some losses to decoration, some re-painting. Under natural light : picture itself has various wear and scuffs, and in some areas the varnish appears more shiny than others, with the section across the top beam being more matt looking, various blemishes and deposits to surface of paint/varnish. Under ultra-violet light : whole of the painting has a very milky white finish, suggesting re-varnishing, with a few areas which appear slightly darker such as hair and collar of gentleman on the right, suggesting some areas of touch-up paint/restoration.
19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL "Naive portrait of a farmer wearing top hat with pitchfork in his left hand", oil on panel, 14 cm x 11 cm CONDITION REPORTS Painting overall with fairly dull finish, quite a few scrapes and scratches where the paint has been scraped away, some craqueleur, some undulations to the surface, there is a gilt painted band down the right-hand side of the painted panel and slightly paler line to the left of that. Under ultra-violet light : large area of the farmer's smock shows up very black indicating areas of restoration, there is also a series of scratches across the leg area which are very indistinct and may be an inscription of some kind, some dark marks also show up across the bottom section of the picture and to the pitch fork. Frame has a faux rosewood stained effect, and has various chips and losses.
