With a panel on the reverse containing the identification of each embroidery and the embroiderer 252cm long, 170cm wide approximately Provenance: Commissioned by Lady Cutler, wife of the governor of New South Wales, Sir Roden Cutler for H.R.H. The Princess Margaret Condition Report: Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Dating is as per the cataloguing and panel to reverse- some surface dirt, small fly spots and signs of atmosphere damp- colours still fairly bright some mild sagging Please see additional images for visual references to condition which form part of this condition report. AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY WESTERN INDIAN GUJARAT LONG BEADWORK PANEL, with polychrome stylised geometric designs on white ground, as well as Hindu deities, plants, and animals, The craft arose from the trade in Murano beads amongst Indians in Zanzibar. For a note on beadwork in Kutch, see John Gillow and Nicholas Barnard 'Traditional Indian Textiles', London 1991, p.63. This example is exceptionally long. Chinese Qing Dynasty embroidered silk panel decorated with birds amongst flowers, framed, two 19th century copper and brass embossed shot flasks, a brass bell with turned wooden handle, a Dunhill leather cased set of frosted glass spirit flasks and chromed beakers and other items Condition Report The flasks do not show any obvious damage - we have not looked at under UV light, but they appear to be good. Pair of Chinese Longyanmu (tiger-skin wood) side tables, each of square form with stylised carved decoration, with single shelf over a trelliswork base, each signed to base of shelf in characters reading "Used by Chen Lian in the 14th year of the Republican period" (ie 1926) 80cm high x 35cm square (2) It is believed that this does not relate to the date they were made and is a form of scholarly graffiti inscribed on the furniture by its owner, Chen Lian.The intelligentsia and official class in Imperial China, continuing into the Republican era, enjoyed a very refined lifestyle, practising painting, calligraphy and writing poems, as well as attending to their official duties. And much like the upper middle classes in Britain, they liked to collect antiques and fine furniture. Officials would usually have had a study in which they worked and practised the aforementioned arts - this would have been furnished with antiques and a desk.They also liked to make their own marks of ownership or appreciation on antiques and paintings - for example, Chinese emperors added their seal marks or sometimes wrote poems on famous paintings they owned. Condition Report Overall in good order. One with some slight splitting/separating to square top panel. The other with some similar splitting/separating to the top and also with areas of water damage & staining, Some very minor scuffing to legs and feet, overall with minor flaking to red varnish to underside of fretwork.

An unusual Victorian mahogany drop centre side cabinet/bookcase, the central recessed bookshelves with fluted frieze, flanked by pedestal cabinets with shaped shelved tops above cushion drawers and arched panel doors with column pilasters, shaped plinth base, 164 x 48 x 154cms high; together with an early Victorian mahogany chiffonier, the shelved superstructure with scroll and acanthus leaf frieze, scrolled supports, the lower section with carved double door cabinet opening to reveal a shelved interior, raised on a plinth base, 110 x 34 x 136cms high.
