A Cased Pair Of 25-Bore Flintlock Duelling Pistols By Twigg, London, Circa 1775 With rebrowned twist slightly swamped octagonal sighted barrels (some wear and old pitting) each signed along the top flat, engraved with a line of beadwork at the rear and stamped '1' and '2' respectively at a later date in front of the back sight, gold-lined touch-holes, tangs each finely engraved with a rocaille and foliage, flat bevelled locks (cocks expertly replaced) each cusped behind the pan and with second form of signature, safety-catches also locking the steels, the latter each with small roller bearing on a ramp on the steel-spring, figured half-stocks (some old bruising and splits in the fore-ends) each carved in relief with a shell behind the barrel tang, chequered rounded flat-sided butts with a dot in the centre of each diamond and carved with characteristic step behind each lock and side-flat, steel trigger-guards each with acorn finial and decorated with a flower-head in a diamond-shaped panel in the border engraved bow, silver escutcheons engraved with owner's crest and initials 'GM', turned ramrod-pipes, and later horn-tipped ramrods: in later relined and refitted mahogany case with some accessories including three-way powder-flask, the body re-covered in dark brown leather, the exterior of the lid with circular vacant brass escutcheon centred on a flush-fitting circular brass carrying handle, London proof marks 35.3 cm. barrels Footnotes: John Fox Twigg was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire in 1732. Fried. Harnage In 1822London Silver Hallmarks For 1822, Maker's Mark Of George ThurkleWith tapering blade etched and gilt against a blued ground over most of its length on each side (some loss of finish and small areas of pitting), one side decorated with symmetrical foliage involving dolphins, maritime trophies, an angel holding a Union Jack in splendour, and a female figure with a fouled anchor, and on the other side with foliage, trophies and figures en suite centred on a panel brightly etched against a whorled ground 'JP To GH' in gothic letters above '1822', cast and chased hilt comprising downbent shell-ground with crowned fouled anchor between Union foliage, rectangular quillon-block formed as a fasces and inscribed 'I. POYYER TO G. HARNAGE 1822' on one side, claw and ball rear quillon, knuckle-guard with ribboned fruiting oak on each side, lion-head pommel, its mane forming the back-piece, ferrule of laurel leaves and with shaking hands below 'AMICUS', and chequered swelling ivory grip bound with plain and twisted silver wire, in its original wood-lined scabbard cast and chased en suite with the hilt, the openwork side panels against fine blackened fishskin, fixed suspension rings formed as mythological beasts, and retaining much of its original gilding 71 cm. blade Footnotes:George Harnage joined the navy in 1807 and served in the Leeward Islands from 1818. In 1820 he was given command of the sloop Raleigh and continued to serve in the West Indies until the close of 1821. He returned to England with a freight of $320,000, and was paid off in 1822Jon Poyyer (or Poyer) was the owner of a sugar plantation in Barbados. A 19th century Chinese carved hardwood table screen, the panel decorated with a dragon within a fruit and grape vine border, on standard end supports, height 80.5cm, width 53cm.Condition Report: The four pierced brackets are currently detached, the main panel has general wear, is open at some of the joints and some discolouration, the moulded support to the back of the left upright is lacking which means that the panel is slightly loose when in position and can easily push backwards, general wear around the base, etc.

Rawsley of Leeds at Sand Beds Bingley, May 14th 1881, 52cm x 37cm, with six carved wood balls known as the 'knurr or potty', four white balls, two cup stands, a spell shaft/cue and score card. Provenance: Riley is the vendor's great grandfather. Riley inherited a fortune in the 19th century and spent much of his time buying pubs, playing Knurr & Spell and became Yorkshire Champion. He is in the right hand side of this photograph.

ELLIOTT LTD, LONDON (FRANK WESTCOMBE ELLIOTT); an early 20th century mahogany quarter chiming longcase clock, the 12" silvered dial with applied gilt fret, Arabic numerals and signed panel, "with chime/silent, Guildford, St Michael, Westminster and Whittington chime subsidiary dial, chime/silent is one dial and also all them chimes is another dial so subsidiary dials to the arch", weight driven movement with chiming quarter and striking the hours on nine tubular bells, in mahogany case with astragal glazed door with break arched hood, fretted side apertures, cantered corners, on moulded panelled base, height approx. 225cm.Condition Report: This stood since new in Whittle's Jewellers, Preston, and was regularly maintained by the resident horologist, the case is in good condition, but expect some areas of scratches and wear, the face of the dial is very clean, depth of base 37cm, width of base 53cm.
