The glass shows fine surface wearing and fine surface scratching commensurate with age. The frame shows a dent at 9 o'clock and a split to the bottom edge between 5 o'clock and 6 o'clock approximately 2cm long which has become filled with dirt over time. There is a further fine split at approximately 1 o'clock, and wear to the gilt finish throughout.Back: The frame is missing a pin at approximately 5pm and shows an uneven open join around the edge, suggesting that the back has been opened at some point. It may therefore be possible that the hair work has been restored or may not be original to the piece. The glass shows fine surface wear and surface scratching commensurate with age.

Lot 352

A Chinese eight panel lacquered screen, early 20th century, the panels depicting figures in a village pagoda landscape upon an ivory coloured ground, the opposite side with birds perched within flowering branches, each panel measures, 183cm x 41cm (lacking hinges) CONDITION REPORT:All the legs show losses to the lacquer, in some cases down to the wood.  There are further losses to the edges of some panels (some with pieces present).  There is evidence of overpainting (possibly for repair) in several areas.  All panels show surface wear and ingrained dirt throughout.  The hinges have been removed at some point and are not present.  It appears that the hinge screw holes on each panel will match up, but this has not been tested. 

Lot 41

A pair of George III silver mounted bottle coasters, William Allen III, London 1802, each of circular form with turned circular walnut bases, wirework borders, central cartouche engraved with a heraldic shield and crest, depicting a hand pointing to a star, each 13.6cm wide (2)CR; Central panel shows moderate scratching commensurate with age and use, but no major dents, splits or signs of repair. The engravings are crisp and clear. One example shows three hairline cracks, two of which run through to the base. The same example shows a chip to the turned detail (see pictures). Both examples shows heavy surface scratching and wear commensurate with age and use. There is denting and general wear to the silver borders on both examples, commensurate with age and use, mostly concentrated around the base, however there are no signs of repair. The example with hairline cracks shows some minor splitting around the wirework, and some minor chips around the felt base. The other example shows several chips around the felt base, and some gapping between the silver collar and base. Both example show moderate wear to the felt. See pictures for illustration.

An 18th century and later oak coffer, the rectangular moulded top above three invert moulded front panels, raised upon stile feet, 58cm H x 112cm W x 43cm DCR;Top panel shows replaced front edge with open join sagging in the centre and various natural faults, splits etc. Hinges possibly later. Lock panel present, lacking mechanism. Exterior edges of base board show evidence of extensive, historic worm and decay. Feet show similar extensive decay to the back edges (back legs repaired to address this). Some evidence of minor historic worm, particularly to the interior.

A late 17th century/early 18th century carved oak coffer, the three panel cover opening to a fitted candle box, above a frieze carved with interlaced flower heads, over three panels each carved with a lozenge, the middle lozenge centred with a bushel, with conforming panels to the sides, raised upon stile feet, 62cm H x 112cm W x 53cm D CONDITION REPORT:The piece shows surface wear including scuffs, dents, small losses, small gouges and colour variation throughout. Evidence of historic worm activity, particularly noticeable in the base boards, candle box lid and adjoining side panel and around central lid panel. Repair to back rail of lid to support central panel, staining below this. Candle box cover present but box largely missing. Stratches to left hand front edge. Rot and worm damage to legs commensurate with age and use.

An early 18th century oak coffer, the rectangular moulded top over three front panels, enclosed by fluted pilasters and raised upon stile feet, 65cm H x 113cm W x 58cm DCR; Open joint to top panel. Visible hinged pins. Left and right top edges possibly later. Open splits to pilasters on each side. Top rails include inverted keyhole to right hand side. Filled keyhole to front right hand side. Later inserted top rail filler to right hand side. Interior shows later repairs and evidence of historic worm with split to right hand side panel. Chips, wear and losses to all corners and highpoints.

A late 17th/early 18th century oak coffer, the twin plank moulded top opening to a fitted candle box above a frieze centred with carved initials 'T.H', over three geometric mitre moulded panels, raised upon stile front feet, 73cm H x 126cm W x 53cm DCondition reportJoint split to the top with bars applied to the underside, lock catch is associated, with the lock removed and filled, small repair between the initials (see additional images).Some fading to the RHS panel, lath/baton applied to the back of the chest across the bottom.General marks and light gouges commensurate with age and use although the coffer appears to be in sound condition with no major visible faults

Top shows split, 11.5cm long, to central baton. Three pierced holes to right hand of top with further possibly worm hole to right hand top panel. Evidence of further historical wood worm intermittently throughout. Left hand drawer lacking handle, right hand drawer with later handle. Feet showing expected wear, surface deterioration and decay. Interior with later red paper lining preventing inspection. Hinges possibly later.

A 19th Century Provincial Spanish walnut side table, the single plank top over three frieze drawers (one a replacement), raised on square tapered supports, 145 cm wide x 60 cm deep x 75.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS The piece appears to be basically sound. The top is single piece with some damage to the rear left corner with some loss and crack. Approx 14 cm. There are signs of surface damage, denting, staining, etc, conducive with age and use, particularly to the right front corner. The side supports protrude slightly, giving the impression of shrinkage to the top though this may possibly be part of the original design. The centre and left drawers have some loss to the base of the front panel but appear otherwise to be original. The right hand drawer appears to be a replacement in the same style - in different wood and different surface texture. The legs appear to be original. Rear left leg has signs of woodworm. Remainder have signs of wear, denting, scratching, etc, conducive with age and use. See images for further detail. As regards the direct question "Is the top original?" - as you will see from the images, this appears to be the case though this cannot be guaranteed.

Loss to carcass veneer approx. 9cm long on left side of same drawer with further repair below. Repair to lower right carcass veneer on right hand side. Middle long drawer over-closes on left hand side (stop present, but not functional). Split and repair to carcass veneer, lower right corner. Loss to beaded edge of lower long drawer, 11.5cm long. Bottom bead loose at lower left edge. Joint to beading on right hand edge of lower long drawer, suggesting later repair or replacement. Repair to carcass veneer, left hand side of lower long drawer.Bottom chest: Cap moulding on right hand side of lower drawers loose. Brush slide shows panel shrinkage to central section revealing open joint. First long drawer of base chest over-closes on right hand side (stop present but not functional). Carcass veneer repairs to left hand side of top and middle long drawers. Second long drawer of base chest shows loss to top beaded edge, 28.5cm long. Third long drawer shows loss to beaded edge on left hand side, 9.5cm long, with further split above, approx. 11cm long. Same drawer shows loss to right hand beaded edge, 3.5cm long with further joints below, suggesting later repair or replacement (some sections loose). Same drawer shows loss to right hand side of lower beaded edge, 4.5cm long. Crude replacement to carcass veneer, right hand side, between drawers two and three. Losses to shaped mouldings on lower right foot (pieces present). Further loss to shaped moulding of left foot (piece present). Repaired split to the top of the left bracket foot.

Lot 636

A Victorian mahogany chest of drawers, of cottage proportions, formed from two short over two long drawers, raised upon bun feet, 82cm H x 87cm W x 41cm DCR: This piece shows evidence of restoration including re-varnishing. There is an open joint to the left hand side panel, and a filled screw hole to the right side panel. The top moulding shows an open split and small loss to the left hand side. The handles may be later, and do not match. Some show small losses, and all show wear to the varnished finish.

An Arts & Crafts oak draw leaf table, purchased from Liberty, the rectangular draw leaf top above a lightly undulated frieze, raised upon splayed and tapering legs, united by a chamfered 'X' cross stretcher, 75cm H x 100cm extending to 168cm W x 85cm D, complete with a copy of receipt from Liberty dated 1992CR; The top shows open corner joints, open panel joints at one end, and repairs to the veneer at the same end. The drawer leaves are a good colour match, and show surface wear, including scratches and ring marks, commensurate with age and use. The leg structure appears sturdy, showing surface wear including minor scratches, small dents, the odd loss to corners, and wear to the stretcher.  

Lot 678

A mid 20th century 'Long John' style teak sideboard, the four central tambour effect drawers flanked by a pair of fall-front cupboard doors, raised upon tapering cylindrical legs, 72cm H x 168cm W x 46cm D CONDITION REPORT:Top shows surface wear and marking (including the odd small watermark) commensurate with age and use.    The front edge of the top appears somewhat sunned, particularly on the right hand side.  All the drawers appear to have dropped slightly due to wear to the runners (most noticeable on the second drawer down has dropped slightly on the left, and the bottom drawer, which catches slightly on the base with resultant wear and marking to the base panel).  The top drawer houses a removable cutlery tray, the right support for which needs securing.  The leg structure appears sturdy and shows possible evidence of later re-gluing.  The legs show the odd scuff commensurate with age and use.

WILLIAM HUTTON & SONS; an Edward VII hallmarked silver bowl with beaded scalloped rim, on four pad feet, London 1903, diameter 27cm, approx weight 14.7ozt/460g.Additional InformationThere is a central circle which has possibly been an engraved panel and polished out, the feet are slightly unstable, very minor tarnishing scratches and wear, the rim is misshapen and there are polish holes to the beaded rims, there are also a couple of splits to the rims.
