An Edwardian embroidered bedspread, the centre with a floral bouquet with crochet and embroidered borders, two ends with a lace overhang. Length 225 cm, width 217 cm. CONDITION REPORT: One corner along the blue ground has a 5 cm tear and on the same side the inner blue band has deteriorated in two sections but is still intact. The opposing blue panel has deteriorated in a small section but this looks as if it is by being folded and creased. Overall it is pretty much intact albeit it faded. The crochet work to both sides is good as is the crochet work throughout. Given the nature of this item there may be small anomalies we may have missed but there are no major flaws visible. The colours would most likely have been much more vibrant at one point.
An Indian hand embroidered bedspread, with central star motif and flowers and floral running borders embroidered with gold coloured metal thread against a silk ground. a 20th century modern Italian bedspread decorated with tigers and leopards amongst Regency style flowers, all against a blue ground and with fringed ends, 153 cm x 162 cm and 144 cm x 122 cm respectively and a Victorian paisley pattern embroidered tablecloth with green velvet border, 87 cm x 85 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The velvet and paisley cover has a 3 cm square patch missing to the central panel and further smaller thumbnail size patches due to wear and tear. The remainder is rubbed around the corners and edges but this would be commensurate with age. The paisley embroidery is good throughout and the colours are good. There is a small patch of staining to the green central panel which has bled onto the embroidered section (at approximately 6 o'clock on a clock face) but not excessively. Overall the wear and tear is very much commensurate with age and in general is good. The Italian bedspread is in good order and carries a label for Passamaneria Toscana. The colours and embroidery are good, there are no obvious faults. The Indian bedspread has some loose threads to the central star directly to the centre and also on the left point (west). The silk ground has deteriorated throughout, top quarter, centre left and right of the star and also the bottom quarter, these can be seen using the zoom facility on our website. It has benefited from having been embroidered onto a backing which may have helped preserve the threads from tearing excessively. In general there are some loose threads but nothing too excessive.
A pair of Georgian silkwork and embroidered oval panels, depicting a shepherd resting against rocks beside a deceased lamb and a female walking a dog within a landscaped surrounding, each in matching gilt and beaded frame. Images 41 cm x 35 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both panels are in generally very good condition. The male panel has no issues. The outer frames which are probably original have been repainted at some point but are both in good condition. The female panel has slightly shrunk away from the edge of the frame on the left-hand side. This is however in our opinion not of any great significance.
A George III silk and embroidered oval panel, depicting a young boy with dog in landscape surrounding, 19.5 cm x 15.5 cm. A 19th century needle painting in silk threads depicting a river scene, 17.5 cm x 25 cm, and a 19th century embroidery work depicting two young females reclining by a tree within an oval frame, 17.5 cm x 21.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The small oval panel is glazed. The outer frame is in good structural order but does have some paint losses. The panel itself is beginning to perish in the silkwork in the sky to the left hand side of the boys head. There are no losses as yet but the perishing marks are visible. The larger oval panel is in a thin metal frame which is tarnished and has lost much of its original finish. The panel itself is not under glass and is a little faded and discoloured. The rectangular panel is not in good condition at all. Much of the material has perished. The frame also is in poor condition.
A collection of late 18th and early 19th century tapestries and needleworks, to include embroidery work panels on silks, fine needlepoint tapestries of young children and needlework pictures of children by a tree and a tapestry of a young girl with a parrot etc (12). Largest 67.5 cm x 59 cm, smallest 20 cm x 20 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The embroidery on the silk backing is faded and stained and the silk backing has perished in parts. There are three matching embroidery panels on which the colours have faded and deteriorated. The blue ribbon threads on one example are perished. The embroiders of the shepherdess and the boy with dog are unmounted but in good order and the colours are good. The tapestry of the young girl holding a book before a parrot is unmounted but is in good order and the colours are good. The stump work type floral bouquet/chair seat is in good order and the colours are good. It is unmounted. On the embroidered rectangular panel with flowers the colours are good and the tapestry/embroidery work is good however the groundwork between the purple and yellow flower has perished and the upmost side is stained which should be viewable on our web image. On the threadwork picture of two young girls and a boy by a river there are some loose threads in the river on the left-hand side but the majority appear to be in good order albeit the colours in the background are slightly faded.
