A Ten Drawer Mahogany Butterfly and Moth Collectors Cabinet by J J Hill and Sons, London NW10, circa 1920 containing a varied collection of both Butterflies and Moths native to Canada, Switzerland, Britain, Uganda, Malaysia, and South America, enclosed within glass panel protected mahogany drawers with turned mushroom handles, the cabinet with a removable front panel on two dowels and lock to the top, 50.5cm by 46cm by 70.5cm, maker's circular label to the base
Ersari Turkmen jollar (trapping or decorative panel), south west Turkmenistan, late 19th century, 17in. X 4ft. 10in. 43cm. X 1.47m. All over dyrnak guls on an earlthy red field; a panel of star motifs to each side; within a narrow panelled main border. Lustrous wool, glowing palette including a soft yellow and a bottle green; soft handle.
Daghestan white field dated prayer rug, north east Caucasus, late 19th century, 4ft. 8in. X 3ft. 1in. 1.42m. X 0.94m. Overall wear with corrosion to dark brown. Minor losses to ends. Fabric tape each end verso. All over stylized flowering plants within a lattice, with ivory 'hand' panels above the mihrab woven twice with the date 1318 (AH) [1900 AD) and a third in the left hand panel 1329 (?) (AH) [1911 AD]. Note the two tiny birds in each corner of the light red main border at the lower end. Cf. Bennett, I. Oriental Rugs, Vol. 1. Caucasian pp. 320-323 for similar white ground examples and where various dated examples are also cited. A further white ground lattice design example is illustrated p. 253, pl. 327.
Veramin runner, north west Persia, woven with date 1338 (AH) [1919 AD] at the top end left side with ivory inscription panel to the right side, 8ft. 8in. X 3ft. 2in. 2.64m. X 0.97m. Surface mark to lower right corner; some wear in places. Note the pair of hilarious chicks in the lower part of the dark brown field.

Bernard Lens (British 1682-1740), Allegory of the infant Christ and John the Baptist reclining under a fruiting grapevine with attendant cherubs and lamb, signed with monogram and dated 1723, gouache on parchment pasted to oak panel, in glazed giltwood frame 17.5 x 24.5cm. Provenance: By decent from the artist through the Lens family to the present owner Mr Bernard Clarke-Lens.

Born in Ashley, Cheshire in 1858 of farming stock and grew up at Lower House Farm, Mobberley and then Brookside Farm, Ashley. The then Lady Egerton, whilst Ridgeway was still a boy, employed teachers for the young of Rostherne at the local school, in order to help them possibly gain a trade when they grew up. The girls were taught needlework, and the boys wood carving. Young Edwin took to wood carving as a natural, and was eventually to be asked to go to Manchester Art College as a wood carving instructor.
