17th century French School; a gilt-framed oil on panel, a shoulder-length portrait study of Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de Sévigné, known as Madame de Sévigné, the coat-of-arms shield incorporated in the frame shows the black-and-white chequer pattern of her parental coat-of-arms, on the left as we look, and the red/gold and blue/gold is that of her husband's Sévigné coat-of-arms.
