(25.5cms) square dial, roman chapter ring with signature 'Wm Prevost, Newcastle', mask and foliate spandrels, subsiduary seconds dial and date aperture, three-train movement sounding on eleven hammers and bells, larger top bell, the barrels and most of the wheel trains set with a shaped sub plate, ring turned pillars, decorative turned steel arbour, the case with carved mask, flower and swag pendiment with gilt ball finials, fretwork frieze above glazed square door flanked by barley twist columns, line inlaid and banded waist door with oval lenticule on panel base, 220cms high. A GEORGIAN MOURNING TIE PIN with glazed painted panel depicting a lamb underneath a tree with the initials BL, panel size approx 1.5cm x 2.8cm, length in total 7.2cm, weight 3.4gms Condition Report: The plaque is a lovely clean example, a very tiny bit of dust is under the glass, not eye visible. a few scratches to the glass, nothing dreadful. the stick pin looks to be a later addition, either lead soldered or glued on, then finished with a lick of gold coloured paint to be fair this would be the only way to do this. In my opinion the surround and back of the plaque are gold, I think the pin is gold plated.

The painting is in good condition with no significant issues.

Three small areas of damage with paint loss located lower right quarter section, and generally a number of very small areas within top and bottom half sections where there has been small chips in the pigment that have been restored.

There are small light abrasive marks to the surface in the area of the bottom left corner and in an are just up from there adjacent to the left edge. There is probable retouching work lower left and upper right areas.

MANSON CHARLES: (1934-2017) American Criminal who led the cult based Manson Family, responsible for multiple deaths (including the murder of Sharon Tate) and the subject of Quentin Tarantino's film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. A.L., unsigned (although signed C Manson in the return address panel to the verso), on one side of a plain postcard, California, n.d. (January 1988), to Nuel Melton Emmons. Manson writes, in part, 'I wish you had hurd some of what I said. You only hurd the ecos of your own thinking. I did all you wanted & you only seen my weekness - it is on the way & you will see it - It started years ago & I was set on the road to hold some chance - ATWA will get more real personal ego in……all letters I git praze the book. I still think it stinks.' Hand addressed by Manson to the verso. VG     Nuel Melton Emmons (1927-2002) American photojournalist and biographer of Manson. Emmons first met Manson briefly when he was imprisoned for automobile theft in 1956, and again under similar circumstances in 1960. In 1979, he contacted Manson and began extensive interviews and his correspondence with Manson resulted in the book In His Own Words - The Shocking Confessions of the Most Dangerous Man Alive (1986).

LEYVA ANTONIO DE: (1480-1536) Spanish general during the Italian Wars. A rare L.S., Al pyacer de V.S., Ant. de Leyva, one page, 4to, Milan, 24th December 1528, to Charles Borromeo. Leyva writes asking for the help of the apostolic prothonotary in fighting the famine which was gripping the region of Milan following the famous siege of 1523, explaining that there is a shortage of grain, and adding that they have been made to buy a large quantity of wheat from Germany, which will be transported to Milan via Lake Maggiore without being impeded if possible. Leyva also explains that he has written to Gilbert Borromeo, Count of Arona, on the same subject and that additional assistance will be provided. With address panel and seal to the verso. VG
