Lot 132

1987 BMW 325i Sport M-tech 1 Transmission: manualMileage:121407The BMW E30 325i Sport was manufactured between 1986 and 1991. It is best known for its sporty looks, powerful engine, and excellent driving dynamics. The E30 325i Sport is a rear-wheel-drive car, which features a 2.5 litre inline-six engine, producing 161bhp and 167 lb-ft of torque. The engine was paired with either a five-speed Getrag manual transmission or a four-speed automatic unit, both providing a smooth and responsive driving experience. The E30 325i Sport was also equipped with sport suspension, a limited-slip differential, and larger brakes, which made the car one of the very best driver's cars of its time. This particular example presents superbly in Diamondschwartz with a two-tone grey houndstooth and black cloth interior. With just four owners from new, this car has clearly been cherished throughout its life and looks as though it has never been repainted. Small details such as the VIN number on the scuttle panel are still very clear to see, something which can often be lost when a car is repainted and the pinstripes down the flanks of the car look to be original. The service history for this car is particularly impressive, with 22 stamps in the service book and further invoices for servicing.   The most recent service stamp is showing as a BMW Inspection II and cambelt service at ETA Motorsport in October 2019. The car is currently fitted with a later M-tech 2 steering wheel, but the original M-tech 1 steering wheel is supplied with the car, along with all owner's manuals and books. These cars are very rarely available, and even less so with such a comprehensive service record. Interest has really piqued in these cars in recent years, with some even leaning towards the 325i Sport instead of the M3, due to its silky smooth straight-six engine opposed to the M3's tamer four-cylinder offering. This example ticks all the boxes and is estimated very reasonably, offering much more character than many of the latest BMW M departments offerings.

Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet Transmission: automaticMileage:89593The debut vehicle for this line was the 300 CE-24 Cabriolet, built until 1993 until it was succeeded by the E320 Cabriolet which became a classic in its own right. What is more, it had the potential to become a genuine piece of automotive history since its production period was relatively brief and numbers built were relatively low. The design stems from their four-door counterparts with modern features such as the eccentric sweep panoramic windscreen wiper, independent suspension and highly advanced safety systems. These were also disguised roll-over hoops in the event of an accident. If un-extended, they automatically deployed in 0.3 seconds if sensors detected an 'unusual angle of attack'. The convertible roof stowed away under a rear panel leaving nothing above the body to disturb the cabriolet form. This lovely example is presented in white with a cream leather interior with walnut insert to dash and has a black electrically operated hood. It comes with electric windows, stereo and electric ariel and it also has its book pack and spare wheel. This very retro and desirable cabriolet is offered in good condition and is now a very sought-after model, with most being offered with considerably higher mileage than this one which has only done 89,593 miles from new.

1961 Lotus Elite (Type 14) Series 2 Transmission: manualMileage:65779The  incomparable Colin Chapman re-wrote the rulebook with many of his sports and racing cars. His focus though, was always weight. Combined with body-stylist and friend, Peter Kiran-Taylor in 1956, they developed the Lotus Elite. New in so many ways, but primarily  as a lighter-weight car, with  much  of the stressed chassis as fibreglass (GRP)  with  just a small amount of the load-bearing structure made of steel  to support  the famously spirited Coventry Climax engine. The Type II Elite Coupé proved a wonderfully agile driver's car, suitable for high-performance use on both road and track. The Bristol-bodied Elites were lighter and more robust than their Maximar predecessors and the Kiran-Taylor body form, fine-tuned by aerodynamicist Frank Costin, contributed to the car's low claimed drag coefficient of just 0.29.Although production finished for these cars in 1963, this example  was registered in 1965 and originally sold to a Mr. J. Cummings. It was the vendor who originally had an Elite in his youth and, despite a break where work and family took over, the hankering  for an Elite  never lost him.  A  very  competent trained engineer,  he eventually  found  a restoration project which, once purchased, was recovered back to Cornwall and stripped down. The bodywork was not too bad although the front subframe needed work. Indeed, a new one was obtained from Miles and Scott Bader followed by a Polyester powder coating and two coats of filler/primer and four coats of polyurethane acrylic finish applied to the entire car, including the engine bay and dash panel (although some attention would be required to now bring it back to showroom condition). The doors and windows have all been re-hung including all fixings and associated mechanisms. New front and rear screens and rubbers were also re-fitted as well as seals all the way round.Suspension units, front and rear, were also stripped and rebuilt with new bearings and bushes with 14 € wheels replaced with 15 € polished chrome wire wheels with 155x15 Firestone rubber all round. The brakes were completely rebuilt as expected with new callipers, pistons, seals, pads and hoses/pipework fitted to all four corners. After an oil pressure drop-off at 55,000 miles, the engine was stripped back and crank reground to -0.010 € with a new big-end and main shells. New cylinder liners were fitted with new piston rings as well as an adapter plate modified to take a conventional lip seal. A new timing chain has been installed with re-cut cylinder head-valve seats and re-ground inlet and exhaust valves.  The front and rear prop shaft universal joints have been re-built alongside a new crown wheel fitted with pinion bearings and half shaft bearings and differential mountings. A new clutch centre plate fitted with master and slave clutch cylinders was renewed in 1998 with a new diaphragm clutch cover fitted in 2002. According to the Elite World Register, based on the gearbox shift lever, it appears to have a MG Magnette gearbox, a not-unusual upgrade back in the 1960's, as are the twin Weber carburettors. The radiator has been flushed, tested and repainted with new hoses, thermostat and clips. A  new stainless-steel fuel tank is now fitted with all new stainless steel, armoured/braid PTFE fuel hoses running throughout. A completely new wiring loom is fitted with new solenoid, starter and dynamo brushes all replaced as necessary with all instruments checked. A new battery has been installed, complete with isolating switch. The exhaust system is now a stainless-steel unit with lugs bonded into the body. New silencers are now also fitted with replaced manifold studs. No expense has been spared with the interior as well;  all the seats and trim have been re-recovered, a new carpet set fitted,  plus  new high-specification, four- point seat belts fitted with reinforced mounting points. Underneath the seats, the slide mechanisms have been stripped and re-plated, the dash panel stripped and re-painted and the boot area re-trimmed and carpeted. The  car's comprehensive paperwork is extensive and is  provided in  a huge 64 litre plastic storage box. This includes a file of service parts, a Type 14 handbook, 'Lotus, the early years' by Peter Ross, a workshop manual file, a Lotus Club information file and 1974 register.  In addition, many Lotus Club magazines, two folders of Elite clippings and an extensive file relating to this car in particular. Finally, and interestingly, a boxed book entitled 'Lotus Elite, Racing Car for the Road' by Dennis Ortenburger. This is signed by the author on an actual 'chassis plate' inside the flyleaf alongside the actual chassis number, 1558.

1953 Chevrolet Bel Air Panel Van Transmission: automaticMileage:The 1953 3.5 litre Chevrolet Bel Air Panel Van was a popular workhorse vehicle during its time, known for its durability and versatility. This vehicle was commonly used by small businesses and delivery services to transport goods and supplies. It featured a sturdy steel body and a reliable engine, which made it a reliable choice for those in need of a work vehicle. The panel van had a spacious interior and could carry a significant amount of cargo. The Bel Air was given a facelift in 1953. The pre-war technology, such as torque tube drive, six-cylinder splash feed engines, knee-action suspension, and split windshields of the early models, was phased out, and the foundations for the first post-war modern Chevrolet passenger car were finalized. The Bel Air series featured a wide chrome strip of molding from the rear fender bulge to the rear bumper. The inside of this stripe was painted a co-ordinating colour with the outside body colour, and 'Bel Air' scripts were added inside the strip. 1953 was the first year for a curved, one-piece windscreen. This handsome Chevrolet Bel Air presents extremely well. The chromework glistens, and the paintwork is in good order. This powerful American classic fired up on request and we are told drives well. This 1953 example was registered in the UK in 2011 and is offered to auction with a V5C registration document. This Chevrolet Bel Air has presence and nostalgia in plentiful supply; it is an ideal vehicle to enjoy at local events or would be ideal for any business, it certainly has plenty of space to be sign written. Today, the 1953 Chevrolet Panel Van is considered a classic and is sought-after by collectors and car enthusiasts alike.

Spanish school. Aragon. 16th century.“Our Lady of Roncesvalles gives her heavenly sovereignty and strength to King Ferdinand I of Aragon, among his faithful followers and vassals, Mrs. Oliba and her husband, under the protection of their protectors, San Antonio Abad and San Blas” – originally "La Virgen de Roncesvalles entrega su soberanía celestial y fuerza al Rey Fernando I de Aragón, entre sus fieles seguidores y vasallos Dña. Oliba y su marido, bajo el amparo de sus protectores, San Antonio Abad y San Blas"Tempera and gold background on panel.136 x 182 cm.The altarpiece is made up of three panels. In the central one is Our Lady of Roncesvalles with the Child, surrounded by angel musicians, giving a fleur-de-lis to King Ferdinand I of Aragon, as identified by the mention "D'Antequera". The Virgin Mary "touches" the King with her strength and with the fleur de lis gives him the mission of sovereignty, loyalty, honour, purity and spirit. To the right and left, the donors, Lady Oliba, as the inscription says, and her husband, are both protected by their devotional saints. She is with Saint Anthony, and he is with Saint Blaise. It is interesting to note that it is the lady donor who is mentioned on the altarpiece, therefore, she must have been an important personage. The most important and special thing about this panel is that it is not for private worship. No doubt it is a gift from the donors to their King. Transmitting their fidelity to him as his vassals, wishing and praying for him, as is his patron Virgin Mary, that of Roncesvalles, who grants him all the strength to be a good sovereign, bathed in God and His strength. They tell their king that in this worthy task of being sovereign and lord of all these lands and of all of us, the Virgin Mary is the one who gives protection. The King is given preponderance, in the centre with the Virgin Mary, because he is offering his life to her, and with faith he is shown that she is going to give him the strength to manage the great task of reigning over his subjects. The original carved, gilded and polychromed wooden crest is preserved. At the bottom is the inscription: "Esta obra mando facer Ernan Gonçales de la Puerta en Onor e Reberencia de Nuestra Señora de Santa Maria de RocesVales e San Blas San Anton” (This painting was commissioned by Ernan Gonçales de la Puerta in honour and reverence to Our Lady of Roncesvalles, Saint Blaise and Saint Anthony).
