A LARGE REGENCY GILTWOOD AND GESSO CONVEX WALL MIRRORCIRCA 181583cm diameter overall A closely related mirror sold from the Gyrn Castle Collection, Christies London, Lot 83, 17th June 2006, Lot 83, £9,000. Another similar was sold in these rooms, 30th May 2022, Lot 291 £5625 (including premium).Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Some old splits. Various old wear to the gilding. The mirror plate appears original and bears the expected depletion in the form of a grey 'fogging' to the plate. The plate does reflect a clear image beyond the light 'fogging' (Please see additional images for visual reference) Some slight movement of the ebonised moulding from its position against the inside edge of the frame. This should be straightforward for a restorer to remedy if required. The whole of the reverse of the frame is covered with paper (bearing tears and losses) so it is not presently possible to see if the rear panel is original. Some old worm damage is likely but not clearly visible past the paper covering the back. Very few holes are detectabel fromt he front of the mirror. Some nail/screw holes from previous methods of hanging the mirror. The flat outermost edge of the frame (nearest to the wall. Shows evidence of gilding but also but also has a 'brown' wash over it that is likely original. There is wear, chipping, fragmentary loss and some chips of loss there. Overall in good original condition for its age. This mirror is a relalively unusual large scale for its type. Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to condition. A REGENCY GILTWOOD 'PAGODA' WALL DISPLAY CABINETIN BRIGHTON PAVILION MANNER, EARLY 19TH CENTURY87cm high, 95cm wide, 13cm deepCondition Report: Please note: This frame is possibly of later date than originally catalogued. It is possibly later 19th or early 20th century . The recess of the frame measures: 51cm high, 83cm wide, 2.7cm deep.Marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and useWear to the gilding. Some small old losses. some old repairs. some gilding/ gold paint disguises some old losses. Some later refreshing to gilding. The plain panels within the frame have likely been later gilded/ re-gilded Various small holes to the plain panel , likely from securing the previous content of the frame. The ebonised moulding within the edge of the main frame section may be a later addition or has been refreshed. some later small nails secure it into position. It appears that there was a slender 'stretcher' across the centre of the frame and evidence that it ran/ joined into the corresponding frame (see images) the 'stretcher' has since been removed. Some evidence of later re-gluing to the upper 'pagoda' section. Some carved elements of it have previously been detached and reglued. Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
A GEORGE II GREEN LACQUER AND CHINOISERIE DECORATED CHESTCIRCA 1750Decorated variously with figures in traditional costume, architecture, plants and flowers78.5cm high, 95cm wide, 61cm deepCondition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions, wear and some losses comensurate with age and use. Some areas of more noticeable scratching/ chipping including to the rear edge of the top and the rear panel. The rear panel is green lacquered/ painted but not decorated. To the lid, where there has been some minor movement over time as expected, the meeting of the panels forming the top are visible. This is also visible to a degree to the left side panel and the rear panel. There is some minor movement between the panels forming the floor of the chest and a fragment lacking towards the end of one plank. (see additional images). Historically, nails have been put in to the outer edge of the lid to secure elements, this has also been done in a smaller number of positions elsewhere. Some re-touching of areas with later paint to disguise loss to various degrees throughout. As expected there is a greater extent of wear to the top of the lid. The key escutcheon, the lock and the side carrying handles appear original. Lacking key. The hinges of the lid appear to be original and there are no alternate marks or holes from alternate hinges. Where a section of the uppermost part of the rear panel has previously had a clean break (see images) , there were previously brackets screwed in to secure. These have since been removed and the element glued into place. In and around the position of one hinge, from the inside of the chest there is a spliced in element of oak. This may be as a result of a hinge previously being torn out of position. It is difficult to know exactly why it is there as the current hinges appear original and there are no alternative marks or holes. Approximately half of one rear foot has been later replaced and painted to match. There are some other old repairs to the feet and some later supporting blocks to the interior joins of the feet to secure. Please refer to all additional images for visual reference to conditionCondition Report Disclaimer

Some additional scratches and abrasions. Some natural fading but the frame generally retains its original surface, good depth of colour and patina. There are bolts to join the elements, However some of the bolts are modern and matched to the bed. The services of joiner/ cabinetmaker will need to be employed in order for the bed to be put together well enough for use and may require some replacement or additional fixtures as a result. The bolts present may not be sufficient to construct the bed properly or solidly/ safely. Lacking headboard panel. The fittings/ apertures are present to the posts to accept a headboard but it is not present. The bed is not constructed whilst on view in the saleroom. One of the circular brass 'swing' covers of the posts (that cover the position of the main securing bolts) is lacking from one of the rear (head end) uprights. Measured whilst deconstructed, the internal width and depth of the bed measures 192cm x 136cm. Standard UK double mattress size is 135cm x 190cm. We would advise having this bed erected fully and the internal width measured again before confirming the exact size mattress required. Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to condition. The mirror plates have age and bear expected depletion in the form of various 'spotting' and minor losses to silvering. Some old repairs. The mirror appears to have been restored overall perhaps 20-30 years ago and incorporated the gilding being refreshed to an 'antique' finish. Elements of the wires supporting decorative elements may have been restored/ replaced. Some of the other decorative elements may be well executed replacements such as the candle arms. The candle nozzles and drip pans are very likely later replacements/ additions. The inset rear panel to the mirror plate may be a replacement or was previously covered with paper. A charming form of mirror of unusual design. Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to conditionCondition Report Disclaimer

Some natural fading in some areas as expected for age however a very high percentage of the items retains very good rich colour and depth of patina. (see images) . The surface appears polished and may possibly have a very thin old layer of varnish.Seven of the short drawers to the interior have a later removable shallow tray element that sits in the upper half of the drawer interior. Simple glued in corner blocks support the trays in position. Some of them are not easy to remove so if are to stay in position may need some adjustment. The handles to the interior drawers are replacements but in period taste/ style. The three 'Royal Arms' escutcheons are of the period and match each other. They may be original. The lock to the doors may be original but has likely been adjusted/ adapted to a degree. The lock to the drawer of the stand is an 18th century replacement. Lacking keys. AN IRISH CARVED PENAL CROSS DATED 1759 Craved arbutus or yew, suspension loop above the front with INRI above Christ in relief, small copper pin detailing to crown of thorns and chest, below ladder, spear and skull and crossbones, the reverse with further cross above heart, date panel and rooster and pot 36cm high, 7.5cm wideThe carving of such private devotional artefacts coincided with the implementation of The Penal Laws. Lucas states that: "The manufacture of crucifixes of an undoubted "penal" type in the locality for sale to the pilgrims of the mid-nineteenth, suggests the possibility that the whole genus of these objects may be associated with the Lough Derg pilgrimage" although, as this example shows, the tradition predates this.Lucas, A.T. (1954) '"Penal" Crucifixes' Journal of Louth Archaeological Society Vol. XIII (No. 2), 145-174Condition Report: The whole of good colour and surface- some shrinkage cracks to right arm of cross with old pinned repair. A LARGE WILLIAM & MARY OLIVEWOOD OYSTER VENEERED MIRRORCIRCA 1690Incorporating cross grain mouldings93cm high, 73cm wideCondition Report: Old marks, scratches and abrasions, old chips and splits comensurate with age and use. Some small losses. Some old repairs. Some old worm damage as expected for age but relatively minor (see images).Retains very good rich colour and depth of patina overall . The moulding adjacent to the mirror plate being slightly more faded likely due to a cloth cleaning the mirror plate over time but not significantly. As most often seen for a cushion mirror of this date, the original surmount is now lacking (indicated by pair of 'cut out' elements to the reverse of the edge of the mirror frame. The cut outs also indicate that the mirror was intended to hang in 'portrait' format and not landscape. This mirror is of larger format than many of this model and date. The figuring/ placement of the oyster veneers is unusual and highly attractive. The mirror plate is a mercury plate of significant age and is hand bevelled. There seems a fair chance that it is original but we cannot guarantee this. The reverse of the frame is original and in sought after 'dry' condition. The rear panel to the mirror plate appears likely to be original also. Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
