Jack Levine (American, 1915-2010). Oil on canvas painting titled "At the Precinct" depicting a man in side profile with a lamp, 1981. Signed along the lower right. With labels from the Kennedy Galleries and the Morris Museum of Arts and Sciences affixed to the verso. Levine was a noted American Social Realist painter.Provenance: Distinguished Corporate Collection, Minnesota.Unframed; height: 21 in x width: 24 in. Framed; height: 28 3/4 in x width: 32 in x depth: 2 1/4 in.Condition:Due to a thick and uneven varnish it is difficult to discern if there are areas of restoration. There are no visible losses. Verso not inspected. Light wear to frame.
Mid-century modern driftwood table lamp with a woven palm leaf lampshade.Height: 27 in x width: 14 in x depth: 15 1/2 in.Condition:The lamp has been tested and turns on; please note that it has not been tested for prolonged use. There are no major chips, cracks, splits, or losses to the driftwood base. Natural wear consistent with material. Some wear including stress marks, fraying, and small breaks to the shade - mostly along the interior.
A PAIR OF GEORGE III GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE AND MARBLE 'APOLLO AND DIANA' FIGURAL CANDLESTICKS BY MATTHEW BOULTON, THE DESIGN CIRCA 1778 Standing figures holding scrolling arms supporting acanthus leaf collars, Diana with moon diadem, on gilt foliate banded swept marble bases, approximately 50cm and 50.5cm high respectively Design drawings for these figural candlesticks appear as a three branch candelabra in Matthew Boulton's Pattern Book, I, p.19, and utilise the symbolism of light-bearing Sun and Moon deities. Two pairs in this design are recorded as being included in Boulton's sale held by Messrs Christie and Ansell's 'At their Great Room, Next Cumberland House, Pall Mall' on the 16 May 1778, Lots 79 and 124. One of those two lots was probably the pair sold at Christie's London, 31st October 2023, Lot 18 (£75,600) Literature: Sir Nicholas Goodison, Matthew Boulton: Ormolu, London, 2002, p.184 & 187, and figs. 131.1 & 132.1-2. Condition Report: Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Both are lacking the original arms and candle nozzles, adapted as lamp bases and drilled for electricity. One hole to base would have been for original candelabra- the other is later presumably for a lamp base- additional holes drilled to base sides Please see additional images for visual references to condition which form part of this condition report.
