A substantial brass barrel shaped coal purdonium early to mid 20th Century The pierced and florally embossed lid to reveal a pull out steel coal box, the whole raised on a pair of Queen Anne legs, also an early brass candlestick with drip tray, height 18cm, a copper beer measure, brass lamp, a copper pan with matching lid and a small copper box, the lid with white metal decoration of a flower and a pair of brass covered bellows.
Tadeusz Was (Polish, 1912-2005) - 'Abstract figures' Mixed media over soot cut, signed, inscribed, approx 40x33cm, framed. (illustrated) NB: Story has it that the process of soot cut was discovered by Tadeusz whilst stationed in the desert during World War II, he apparently held orange peel over a burning oil lamp and the resulting soot produced formed a perfect impression when in contact with paper. A substantial, converted to electricity, silver-plated column oil lamp, early 20th Century The Corinthian capital with fluted column terminating in a classically designed base, the cut glass reservoir surmounted by a glass chimney, height of column 42cm, height to include reservoir 58cm (sold electrically untested) (illustrated) .
A Chinese Wucai vase, probably late 19th or early 20th Century, swollen body, elephant mask and fixed ring handles, painted with a phoenix, matched by a dragon and scrolling foliage in under glazed blue with iron red green shades and yellow, the neck and foot with alternating stiff leaves, 36cm, serving as a lamp base with a wooden lotus form stand and "candle fitment", complete with brocade shade. Provenance: The Marquess of Tweeddale and thence by descent.
