A Pair of B.R.C. 'Alpha' Self-Contained Acetylene Gas Headlamps Dating between 1903 and 1910, a sided-pair of Boa-Rodrigues & Company factory-made lamps. Manufactured for 'Maison Labourdette', 183 Rue de la Pompe, Paris, (coachbuilders) with engraved insignia fitted to the heat ventilators on each lamp. Other features include parabolic nickel-silver reflectors with mirror lenses, centrally mounted condenser lenses, stout hinges and pull locking bars to each front door, carrying bails, stabilising feet, 7½-inch spaced fork mountings, and both numbered 135. The generators retain their appropriate gas taps, carbide of calcium cylinders and bayonet locking With 11-inch bezels and standing 14-inches high, they are in excellent polished-brass condition. (2)

Lot 178

Howes & Burley Lamps A sided-pair of self-contained acetylene-gas lamps dating just pre-WWI. Finished in polished brass and retaining their condenser covers, carbide of calcium containers, gas taps, water flow adjusters, carrying bails, burners and name plates. They possess stirrup mounts with 6½-inch centres, 5¼-inch front glasses, and Mangin reflectors (one cracked). Towards the end of 1913, these lamps were used on Morris Oxford and other small cars. In fine condition with one gentle (repairable) dent at the rear of the off-side lamp. 9-inches deep, 10-inches high. (2)

Lot 301

A c1910 B.S.A. Fittings Gentleman's Bicycle The braced frame measures 25-inches and remains in largely original condition, featuring a handlebar-operated rear brake and an auxiliary front brake. A (later?) K-type Sturmey Archer three-speed rear hub and Westwood rim is currently fitted to aid use in recent years, but its original back-pedalling hub and Roman rim (to match the front rim) comes with its purchase. Also fitted are rat-trap pedals, a period rear luggage rack, a bell, 17-inch curved flat handlebars and a 1920s Lucas 'Calcia Cadet' acetylene gas lamp mounted at the front. The early Brooks saddle is showing its years, but is usable. (2)

A c1910 Clement Gentleman's Bicycle A good, very original bicycle with a 24-inch semi-lug-less frame numbered 311367, and featuring some original black enamel finish, pierced 'Clement' headstock badge, brakes front and rear operated by Bowden cables, leather frame bag, continental leather-topped saddle, inch-pitch chain and 9-inch chain-wheel, rat-trap pedals, 28-inch 'Roman' style rims, and a projector acetylene gas lamp mounted on the 20-inch handlebars.

Onward Cycle Co., Model D Lady's Bicycle A circa-1899 period bicycle built and retailed in Ashford, Kent, this swan neck bicycle, has a 24-inch frame numbered 7749.with 28 x 1½-inch Westwood rims and tyres, a leatherette chain-case, centre-pull stirrup brake at the rear and a front plunger brake, 18-inch nickel-plated handlebars, a rear rack and a good brown leather saddle. A Powell and Hanmer oil-powered lamp is fitted along with a J. Lucas Ltd. bell, celluloid grips and split-end cranks.

Dated 2002, and numbered 6 of only 10 made. The lamp is complete with centralizing antenna, hub adjuster, reservoir and winding burner, red rear light and correct venting. Ready to use.

A c1900 Max Pressler Acetylene Gas Lamp Nickel-plated on brass, having a bayonet-fitting carbide of calcium bowl, saddle-mounted water reservoir and spring mounting bracket. In good original condition, the water control valve needs repair. 7-inches (18cm) high. ECL page 97.

Lot 365

The 'Welt Lanterne' (World Lamp) A kerosene-burning lamp manufactured in Germany between 1897 and 1914, this example probably dating from about 1905. The larger of two sizes available, this model retains its original nickel-plated and brass construction, glass burner tube and a sprung rear bracket, 8-inches (20cm) high. Also, a nickel-plated Worsnops of Halifax 'Fifax' paraffin burning lamp of c1900, fundamentally sound, would benefit from a clean. ECL 112. (2)
