A SMALL GROUP OF ROMAN AND OTHER BRITISH ANTIQUITIES FOUND IN THE EAST MIDLANDS comprising a Celtic bronze woad grinder, the pestle with ring handle, the semi circular mortar with bulls head terminals (excavated Nottinghamshire), mortar 5cm w, mounted, a hammered bronze lockplate 2nd-4th c (excavated Lincolnshire) 16cm w, a bronze oil lamp cup, 2nd-3rd c, of hemispherical form with trefoils either side of the lipped rim (excavated near Retford, Nottinghamshire) a fragment of window glass (found at Margidunum, East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire) a Romano-British iron key with attached belt clip (excavated near Newark, Nottinghamshire), a bronze handle-terminal, 2nd-3rd c, cast with a helmeted head (excavated Nottinghamshire/Leicestershire border), a glass paste counter, 3rd/4th c (surface find Lincolnshire) framed, a blue and white champlêvé enamelled disc brooch, 2nd c (excavated Nottinghamshire) framed, an Anglo-Saxon pottery drinking (?) bowl, a cast bronze attachment (?) of the head of Silenus (?), 2nd/rd c and six various clay and other fragments including part of a tile, stamped LEG II AVG (excavated at Carleon) (17) ++Some faults but an interesting group; the key very rusted and deformed, the other items in varying states of preservation, some (including the Anglo-Saxon pot) quite good and an interesting `cabinet of curiosities`
