A telescopic 19th Century brass lamp standardWith a Corinthian column supported on a stepped square plinth base and raised upon four paw feet, along with a second brass telescopic lamp standard of plain cylindrical form raised on a weighted circular plinth base. CONDITION REPORT: Excessive play in column, some rubbing and extensive tarnishing.
A late 19th century/early 20th century oil lampThe stepped brass base rising to four ebonised Corinthian column stems extending to a cut glass oil receptacle, burner and a rounded globe-shaped cut glass shade with star and diamond cut design, overall height 71cm. CONDITION REPORT: Lamp base has not been electrified, no drill holes. Small chips to both rims of the shade. Reservoir good. Tarnishing to base, otherwise good.No cracks to the shade.
Circle of Thomas Hudson (1701-1779) Portrait of Mrs Thomas Hext, née Gertrude Hawkins (1698-1786), half-length, wearing a blue satin dress with white chemise, in a feigned oval, inscribed ''G Hext'' Oil on canvas, together with a companion picture of her husband Thomas Hext (1699-1767), wearing a blue velvet jacket, white powdered wig and white shirt and cravat, in a feigned oval, inscribed ''T Hext'' (thrice) and dated 1721, 73cm by 60.5cm and 74cm by 61.5cm respectively (2) A label verso states that Mrs Thomas Hext married in 1725 and was buried at St. Austell, along with her husband, in 1767 See illustrationThe gentleman: Re-lined, cleaned, re-varnished there is little indicating repainting or over paint under a uv lamp but it is highly likely that some remedial work has been made whilst not particularly determinable. The central inscription along the lower edge appears to have been added/strengthened. covered in a layer of dirt and discoloured varnish the paint somewhat flat and thin in places, fine stable craquelure throughout, superficial diagonal surface scratch approx 5cm in length below his right arm, further small scratch approx 0.5mm at his right cuff, minor rubbing to edges, stable condition. She: Re-lined, cleaned, re-varnished, general re-touching to edges and odd small other re-touches within the background and lower edge which are visible with the eye, the shadowing around her face is likely to be later. There is little other later re-touching evident with the uv lamp but it is possible that some has been made, the inscription to central edge, possibly strengthened lifting and flaked paint to lower right hand side and to a lesser degree lower left hand side, surface slightly flattened paint is thin in places, fine stable craquelure throughout the remaining picture, surface dirt, discoloured varnish.
