Roman cockerel oil lamp circa 2nd century AD. Here we have a red slip pottery oil lamp decorated with a moulded figure of a cockerel on the tondo. The base is stamped with the makers mark. This item shows extensive damage and repair to the lower part of the nozzle. However, an oil lamp of this age which is signed on the base by the maker as well as a clear depiction of a cockerel. Also from a very interesting old collection with a very good Irish clan provenance. Ex. Collection: Baroness Ethel Inchiquin, wife of Sir Lucius Inchiquin, Prince of Thomond and chief of the O'Brian clan, Dromoland Castle, Ireland. Acquired in the late 19th early 20th century. Size: 112mm x 80mm. Very fine condition.
A rare WWI First World War era c1914 ' Perlux ' German trench signal lamp. Made by Gebruder Bing. The field-green steel case with sprung lid and two folding handles to rear. Various labels to the interior battery compartment. All neatly compacts back into the case. Case diameter (when closed) measures approx; 10.5cm. Very rare trench signal.
