GWR early Platform Lamp with original glass lamp name ASTON CANTLOW. Ex GWR Halt on the Alcester Branch to Bearley comprising a simple 200ft long by 8ft wide wooden platform with a corrugated iron waiting room. Constructed alongside the branch line and opened on 18th December 1922. There were no sidings or goods facilities, but lighting was provided and the single platform had 4 GWR lamp standards with typical lamp tops, this being one of them and the only known survivor. The halt was unstaffed and for administrative purposes was under the control of Great Alne. The Halt was closed when the line closed at the start of WW2, reopened again briefly in 1941, but finally closed on 1st March 1951. Some damage but a worthwhile restoration project from a station that little is known to have survived.
Southern Railway large Ledger with handwritten details on just about every ex SR station in the West from Wilton to Padstow including the Withered Arm, the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, The Budleigh Branch. Make no mistake, this appears to be the work of one very luck employee of the SR who's job was to visit every station and record every detail about the station from the length of platforms, distance between Signalboxes, the different rooms on the station, the Goods Sheds, Barrow Crossings, Footbridges, Cattle Pens, Lamp Rooms, Telephone Circuits, Traveling cranes……you name it, it's got it, in beautiful, clearly legible writing. A quite incredible record the likes of which we have never seen before and are unlikely to see again. Given the time, we would really like to transcribe this book, it really is invaluable to the historian.
