Charles Leslie, British 1835-1890- "Early Morning, Ben Cruachan, Argyllshire" and "A Summers Day on the River Afon Lledr, N Wales"; oils on canvas, a pair, in matching gilt composition frames, 30.5x61cm., ea., (2) CONDITION REPORT: Early Morning, Ben Cruachan, Argyllshire: gilt composition frame retains much of the original gilt surface frame is the original some minor wear and tear to the frame not re-lined on the original wooden stretcher applied canvas patch left-hand side of the canvas verso measuring 14x10cm approx some associated staining in this area salvage has been trimmed on the bottom section of the canvas on the reverse nails holding the canvas in place in the frame are of recent manufacture under inspection with uv lamp there is evidence of re-touching above the figures on the right there are bar marks visible on the recto there is some wear to the paint surface along the right-hand edge of the canvas the paint surface is subject to some crazing and has been re-varnished at some point in time overall in good condition A Summers Day on the River Afon Lledr, N Wales: gilt composition frame retains much of the original gilt surface frame is the original some minor wear and tear to the frame not re-lined on the original wooden stretcher salvage has been trimmed on the top and bottom section of the canvas on the reverse there is staining on the reverse of the canvas nails holding the canvas in place in the frame are of recent manufacture under inspection with uv lamp there is evidence of re-touching far right centre there are bar marks visible on the recto there is some wear to the paint surface along the top edge of the canvas the paint surface is subject to some crazing and has been re-varnished at some point in time overall in good condition
French School, late 19th/early 20th century- Floral still life; oil on canvas, 55.5x40cm CONDITION REPORT: oil on linen canvas in a gilt composition moulding frame with linen slip our opinion is that it has been re-lined the edges of the canvas and stretcher are covered in brown paper is on the original wooden stretcher with manufacturer's stamp horizontal cross brace member of the stretcher is bowed and taught no visible repairs, tears or holes to the canvas there is crazing to the paint surface overall some of this crazing is raised and there is wear to the pigment on the high points, particularly in the background and shadows under inspection with UV lamp there is evidence of retouching top left corner, top centre, in the centre and lower centre right, much of this retouching is in the areas of shadow otherwise in overall good condition
Circle of Anthony Jansz Van der Croos, Dutch 1606/7-c.1665- Figures gathered in a woodland landscape; oil on panel, 46x59cm CONDITION REPORT: in a late 19th century gilt composition frame, now overpainted in gold paint, with some losses to the gesso surface the panel is made up of three joined pieces the panel is bowed concave slightly under inspection with uv lamp there is evidence of re-touching along the top centre edge and the right hand edges there is some blistering to the paint surface lower left above the figures there is some wear to the paint surface along the top edge due to movement of the panel within the frame some slight fine and striated crazing to the paint surface otherwise in good overall in condition
Follower of Leopold Carl Müller, Austrian 1834-1892- The Rug Merchant; oil on canvas, dated 1879, 96x151cm CONDITION REPORT: in a gilt composition swept frame, late 20th century some areas of damage to the front edge of the frame re-lined in recent years probably circa 1980s wooden stretcher appears to be the original under inspection with uv lamp there is evidence of the old varnish having been removed and numerous areas of retouching, heightening of the shadows and retouching in the light architectural areas of the courtyard. otherwise in overall good condition
British School, 19th century- Portrait of a husband and wife, the lady seated half-length wearing a green dress and bonnet, the gentleman standing three-quarter length in tailcoat and holding a sprig; oil on canvas, 52.5x43cm CONDITION REPORT: on a 19th maple veneered frame taping on the reverse is of recent application has been re-lined, circa mid-late 20th century wooden stretcher appears to be the original under inspection with uv lamp there is no evidence of re-touching the painting has been cleaned and re-varnished there is old craquelure to the paint surface there is a deft to the weave of the canvas in the background to the left of the male sitter and beyond the inner section of this sitters left arm overall in good condition
