DAVY HUMPHRY: (1778-1829) British Chemist & Inventor. A.L.S., Humphry Davy, three pages, 4to, Montpelier, 17th (?) (January) 1814, to Monsieur Le Baron Delessert in Paris. Davy states that he has 'not yet profited by your letter of credit' and adds that he proposes to stay at Montpelier for a further ten days and would like the letter of credit sent there, explaining 'I am just going to make a journey to the extinct volcanoes in this neighbourhood & on my return I will send you bills of exchange for as much money as I shall want whilst I am in the south of France.' In a postscript Davy remarks 'If you can have the goodness to transmit the enclosed letter (no longer present) to London it will serve as a letter of notice to Messrs Drummond & Messrs Morland & Co in case the other letters should have miscarried'. With integral address leaf (small area of paper loss caused by the seal being broken, not affecting the text or signature). Some very light, minor age wear, VG £600 - 900Jules-Paul-Benjamin De Lessert (1773-1847) French Industrialist, Financier & Philanthropist. Humphry Davy, the Cornish chemist and inventor, is best remembered today for isolating a series of substances for the first time; potassium and sodium in 1807 and calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium and boron the following year, as well as discovering the elemental nature of chlorine and iodine. A President of the Royal Society (1820-27), whose laboratory assistant was Michael Faraday, Davy also invented a very early form of incandescent light bulb as well as the Davy Lamp.
PHILIPE GÉRARD: (1922-1959) French Actor. A good A.L.S., Gerard, two pages, 8vo, n.p., January 1958, to Serge and family, in French. To the inside of the folding 8vo stiff white card, featuring a printed greeting saying “Anne and Gerard Philipe, send their best wishes to you” in French, Philipe has added to the inside left page a statement `The lamp is off, checkmate. Slowly I take the tokens in hand again. To perform the best first. I feel very friendly close to you, Serge,...´ Philipe adds also beneath the printed text to the inside right page his greetings to Serge and other members of his family. The document bears a card affixed to the front. Accompanied by a vintage unsigned postcard photograph of Philipe. Signed documents of Philipe are scarce following his death at the early age of 36. Small overall, minor age wear to the card. VG £80-100Serge Vallin (1906-1991) Assistant producer to some Philipe´s films.
Pair of 19th Century German porcelain figures, probably Anspach, depicting a young gallant and lady, each with a lamb at their feet, 26cm high Condition: The female figure has losses to the petals, there is something missing from the extending tree trunk which rises just near the rear of the lamp, the male figure with losses to the petals and foliage, fingers missing, right ear of lamb missing, damage to bows on his shoes and garters and to the ribbon in his hair - **General condition consistent with age

Four vintage miners lamps comprising: Naylor Spiralarm Type 'M', a Best's Gauzeless Lamp, a Thomas & Williams Cambrian Type No.8 and a Thomas & Williams Cambrian Type No.02 Condition: The 'Best Gauzeless Lamp' has a large chip to the outer glass approximately 28mm x 20mm, light corrosion allover, the lamps all have wear including scratches, small dents and knocks to the top edges (please see images) - **General condition consistent with age
