An ancient Syrian pottery oil lamp oval form with rounded base, bearded figure serving as the ansa with relief carved decoration to body, 6½in. (16.5cm.) high. * CONDITION: Two old chips to spout end - one to left edge just above spout opening and the other to tip. Shallow old chip to centre left edge - possibly a flaw from the making. Small very old chip to top edge at centre of 'hood'. Expected soot blackening from use to top surface. Some large patches of black staining to underside - probably oil.
