A bronze oil lamp with bulbous body, tapering rounded nozzle with discoid vent, raised and flared rim to the discus with flat handle and support-arm to the reverse, reflector formed as an animal pelt with short limbs, segmented claws, human face. 173 grams, 14.5cm (5 3/4"). A bronze lamp with flared base, D-section bowl and nozzle, raised rim to the flat upper face, two pierced lateral lugs, loop handle to the rear with crescent reflector and small loop. Cf. Bailey, D.M. A Catalogue of the Lamps in the British Museum. IV. Lamps of Metal and Stone and Lampstands, London, 1988, item 3797 for type. 493 grams, 15.5cm (6"). 10th-12th century AD. A silver lamp with hemispherical body resting on a circular stand; raised gold band to the outer rim and to the base; outside body decorated with four gold crosses, set within four gold circles, separated by triangular latticed windows and defined by nielloed outlines; four applied suspension loops attached to chains comprising simple s-shaped links followed by decorative pieces, attached to a central distributor with knop and large hook. 362 grams, 48.5cm overall (19"). Property of a professional Austrian gentleman; part of his private collection since the 1990s. Accompanied by X-Ray Fluorescence metal analysis certificate number 00960-2018BL. Very fine condition. Extremely rare in silver.
2nd millennium BC. A bronze two-part lamp comprising: trumpet-mouth base with squared outer edge; balustered shaft and cup with collars, single lateral loop. 385 grams, 13.8cm (5 1/2"). Property of a North London lady; gifted from her father's collection; formerly with a Mayfair gallery, London, UK; previously acquired in the 1980s. Fine condition.
20th century AD. A bronze oil lamp on pedestal in early style, the base octagonal in plan with ornamental panels, the bowl piriform in plan with lateral lugs, broad nozzle with heart-shaped lip, band of calligraphic text to the discus, hanged lid with bird-shaped knop handle, loop handle to the rear with bird-shaped thumb-pad.
