Giuseppe Ballesio, Italian, late 19th/early 20th century- The geography lesson; oil on canvas, signed and inscribed, in a gilt composition Barbizon style frame, 41.5x60cm CONDITION REPORT: in a gilt composition Barbizon style frame the frame with some losses to applied ornament verso the canvas is held in place with cardboard stapled corners on what appears to be the original stretcher not relined recto: the original title plaque has been removed indicated by mark left on the slip the canvas has slipped within the frame revealing a small gap in the upper right corner the upper right corner of the visible canvas edge is worn with losses to the paint surface approx. 1cm from the canvas edge and 17cm along the top edge with a small area of paint loss in the upper left corner inspection under UV lamp shows no visible signs of restoration overall in good condition

This painting is a copy of the original held by the Uffizi in Florence dating from c.1633-34. CONDITION REPORT: gilt composition frame circa early-mid 19th century with large amount of losses to the moulding frame has key construction panel not warped the paint surface is blistering and starting to flake along a vertical axis throughout the picture there are more pronounced blistering along the lower edge and lower left and right, top right and along the left hand edge under inspection with uv lamp there is evidence of cleaning on the face, the collar and the lower right there are remains of the original varnish elsewhere over all in fair to good condition will require some restoration

John Pettie RA, Scottish 1839-1893- Portrait of the artist Francis Wilfred Lawson, quarter-length turned to the left holding a palette; oil on canvas, signed and dated 1889, 16.5x31cm CONDITION REPORT: in a 19th century gilt oak moulding frame canvas has been relined circa late 19th century on what appears to be the original stretcher with six original wedges and two replacements ragged salvage edges the salvage is stuck down to the stretcher with folded newspaper wedges between stretcher and frame with rectangular thin balsa wood 10x12.2cm adhered to the upper area of the canvas reverse with pronounced raised curvilinear craquelure throughout especially over the sitters face with bar marks under inspection with UV lamp there is re-touching and over-painting on the cheek and mouth of the sitter overall in fair-good condition

Pierre Emmanuel Damoye, French 1847-1916- Two figures and a cow on a country track, oil on panel, signed and dated 80, 32.5x61cm CONDITION REPORT: oil on panel in a gilt 19th century carved wooden frame bearing a label with inscription in red pen '6220' bearing inscription in black pen '8233' there is a repaired crack 28cm in length from the central-mid edge of the panel to the centre inspection under UV lamp shows re-touching along on the upper left edge of the panel, in the lower right corner and in a horizontal line along the roof-tops on the right these areas appear raised in natural light with craquelure following the lines of the grain of the panel overall in good condition

Richard Henry Nibbs, British c.1816-1893- Beached shipping at dusk on the upper reaches of the Thames near Chiswick Eyot; oil on canvas, signed and dated 82, 30.5x61cm CONDITION REPORT: in a 20th century gilt wooden moulding frame oil on canvas relined bearing hand inscribed label on the the reverse 'Harrison' inspection under UV lamp shows evidence of re-touching in the masts of the ships to the right and in the sky surrounding sky has been re-painted in the area of dark clouds along the top edge of the canvas at the tip of the mast on the left there appears to be an area of restoration visible within the sky are faint horizontal lines possibly from when this painting was re-lined overall in good restored condition

Attributed to Alexander Nasmyth, Scottish 1748-1850- View of an estuary with woodland and mountains in the distance; oil on canvas, bears remains of inscribed label attached to the reverse of the frame, 33.5x27.8cm CONDITION REPORT: in a Victorian gilt composition frame, now over-painted with gold paint and suffering from cracking to the moulding taping on the reverse is of recent application and is torn in numerous places with losses frame with remains of applied label to the reverse retains the original wooden stretcher, lacking all but two of the wedges canvas is re-lined, circa early 20th century paint surface with old craquelure throughout there is an area of circular craquelure above the boat has been re-varnished under inspection with uv lamp there are small areas of re-touching visible as follows: mall spot top left in sky, small spots in the leaves of the tree centre right, in the tree trunk and along the bottom edge otherwise in good condition

CONDITION REPORT: in a painted wooden moulding frame, early-mid 20th century reverse of the frame with recently applied brown tape with wooden stretcher the canvas has not been re-lined the support is comprised of two horizontal sections of linen joined together on the verso there is a small section of salvage standing proud where these two sections of canvas are joined together on the recto there is a horizontal groove visible left to right across the width of the paint surface this mark travels at the level of the upper point of the crook of the sitter's elbow under inspection with uv lamp there is no evidence of retouching or restoration the paint surface looks to have been re-varnished in recent years otherwise good original condition
