A well-engineered 5 inch gauge model of a 0-4-2 Class 14xx side tank locomotive No 1451, built from a Winson’s kit by a model engineer. The silver soldered copper boiler with fittings including regulator, pressure gauge, water sight-glass, screw reverse gear and lever operated fire door. The chassis with twin inside Stephenson’s valve gear, injector, brakes and dummy sanding gear. The model finished in green and black British Railways livery with fitted steps, hand rails, rivet-work, vacuum hoses, linkages and lamp irons. Length 81cm. Cab width 23cm.Boiler History: Station Road Steam Ltd. Examination certificate for boiler No. SRS-EC-7112. Boiler serial number 175. Built 1999. Hydraulic test pressure 180 psi. valid until the 31st of October 2026. Working pressure 90 psi. Expired the 31st of December 2017. A fine exhibition quality 5 inch gauge model of a London North Eastern Railway A4 Pacific Class 4-6-2 live steam tender locomotive ‘Mallard’ No. 4468, The model built by Mr John Richardson of Halifax, circa 1991, from Doncaster works drawings, photographs and dimensions and details taken from Mallard and the other preserved A4’s. Built as in 1938. The silver soldered copper boiler would appear to have never been steamed and the cab is of fine scale detailing which includes steam pressure gauge, sight-glass, regulator, direction control, lever operated firebox doors, driver's seats and simulated wooden plank flooring. The chassis with twin outside cylinders and centre cylinder having Walschaert’s valve gear with fluted motion. The eight wheel tender, of streamlined type, with L.N.E.R to side, fitted hand rails, steps, coupling and vacuum hose.The model finished in traditional garter blue and black livery with name plates and cab-side number, detailed river-work, steps, hand-rails, lamp irons and lamps.The model comes together with display track and wooden stand.Mallard was purchased by Lord Braybrooke directly from the builder Mr John Richardson of Halifax in May 1991. The model won gold at The Model Engineer exhibition Alexandra Palace, London in 1990 and also took The Crebbin Memorial Trophy.Mallard was built at Doncaster in 1938 and later that year established the world speed record for steam traction at 126 miles per hour. The A4 locomotive was designed under the direction of Sir Nigel Gresley of the London and North Eastern Railway from developments of the Pacific class in 1922. An exhibition quality 10 ¼ inch gauge model of the Great Western Railway Star Class 4-6-0 live steam tender locomotive ‘Polar Star’ No. 4005, The model built by the late David Curwen, circa 1989. The steel boiler with cab fittings including pressure gauge, sight-glass, regulator, direction control, lever operated firebox doors, oiler system, vacuum control, drivers seats and simulated wooden plank flooring. Fitted hand brake. The chassis with twin outside cylinders and twin inside cylinders, Henry Greenly’s modified piston valves, fluted motion and fitted axle pump. The six wheel tender with Great Western Railway print and crest, fitted water cocks, tools boxes and other detailing.The model finished in traditional green and black lined livery with name plates and cab-side number plates, detailed river-work, steps, hand-rails, lamp irons and lamps. Locomotive length 250cm. Tender length 141cm. Locomotive width 56cm. Cab height 90cm. An exhibition quality 5 inch gauge model of a Great Northern Railway Stiring Single 4-2-2 live steam tender locomotive No 53, The model built by John Richardson of Halifax, circa 1983, from works drawings and photographs. The brazed silver soldered copper superheated boiler having back-head fittings including steam pressure gauge, water sight-glass, safety, blower, twin injectors, clack and blowdown valves, twin handled regulator, direction control, cab operated drain cocks, hinged G.N.R pattern firebox door and simulated wooden plank flooring. The chassis with twin outside cylinders and Stephenson’s internal link gear, drain cocks and linkage, crosshead with bronze slippers, detailed big ends, ratchet operated lubricator, brake and sanding gear, whistle and fine rivet detail. Further details include dummy ash-pan and damper controls, brake valve and ejector, vacuum gauge, wooden cab floor, steps, hand and lamp irons and steel and oak buffer beam. The six wheel tender with fitted hand operated feed pump, hand operated brake gear, water cocks, dummy well tank, hand rails and steps.The model finished in traditional G.N.R green and black lined livery and being of early design with fretwork splashers, oval makers plate, fitted couplings, hand-rails and steps. The locomotive has not been steamed since painting.The original full size locomotive was designed by Patrick Stirling, built in 1875, rebuilt in 1888 and withdrawn from service in 1906.Length 142cm. Cab width 35cm.Purchased at Christies in August 1986 by Lord Braybrooke. The model won a Silver Medal at the Model Engineer exhibition Wembley in 1983.
