Original autograph letter in pencil, signed and dated May 26 1894, on black-edged headed paper (10, South Street, Park Lane. W.) bearing manufacturer's watermarks ('CGS' within love heart and 'Standard note'). 'Dear Mrs Battersby I cannot of course decline your kind wish to see Lizzie Coleman - But may I ask a great favour? She is preparing for Confirmation on June 3. By an unlucky coincidence she has had a great deal more responsibility than I like in the kitchen the last few days. I am hurrying a new cook in to prevent a recurrence of this. But I am of course extremely anxious that her mind should not be disturbed. She is behaving very well. I try to give her out of door exercise. I trust Mr Battersby is well. Yours faithfully, F. Nightingale'.
