AN ENGLISH AESTHETIC MOVEMENT GILT METAL MOUNTED MAJOLICA VASE, 1870s, of inverted conical form and sides enameled with Blue Birds flying amongst blossoming cherry tree branches and carnation stems, surmounted by a reticulated metal mounted rim of stylized anthemions and blooms, over a conforming cast base ringed by acorn and oak leaf trim flanked by scrolling arms above continuous leafy bound stalks engraved ovules, raised on a circular socle and four pierced scrolling feet. Height: 22" Width: 9 1/2" Depth: 8 1/4" Provenance: Collection of Karen Mudd, Woodlands, Texas. Condition: Some surface flaking, crazing, gilding wear, handles are loose, metal rim has two chipped tips, repaired areas on metal base, one foot drilled twice, and surface buildup throughout.
